Trudeau has personally presented himself well on the trade dispute to his Canadian electorate.
I think the US needs to go the security stockpile route for aluminum since Canada can produce it cheaper generally.
At $50 million+/warplane, the US security aluminum requirement is in the range of thousands of tons at most.
As for steel, fairly close trade balance along historical norms should be the goal.

US security depends on good US/Canadian relations.

Canada can easily be given two weeks or even two months to review and decide without the slightest bit of coercion from the US.

Canada has good military people and it buys its weapons carefully.

I am sure the members of the Canadian military are all brave and loyal, but their government has put social programs over their defense.
Quick check shows the Army has 80,000 active members. They have 80 tanks. Air Force has less than 500 planes. Navy less than a 100 ships of all types and no Air Craft Carriers.
So yes, what military.
The reason they don’t need a strong military is because they have big brother United States to protect them, which makes you wonder why they keep poking us with a sharp stick.
They have an icebreaker fleet. It’s the only one of any size as compared to the Russians.
When I came to this country, the President was Truman. I thought he was a lovely man, with a lovely family, and his motto was, “the buck stops here”. Our President Trump is the first President since then, IMO, who seems to adopt that same motto.
