I am sure there were hundreds or even thousands of meetings. So what if he knew or didn’t know?

This is the odd part of this for me. That meeting his son had, according to everything I was reading when it was the big story, was a big nothing. He was suckered into meeting, thinking he would get infor on Hillary, but they wanted to talk about something else, so he left.
Why is this meeting even relevant?

Yep. At first I wondered why his son would be so dumb, and then I realized that it is a big nothing, but it’s the best nothing they have. i.e. if it wasn’t this, it would be something else.
