My moms father, Grandpap, unloaded his 30-06 at one far enough away to hit with a rock. He RELOADED and emptied it again and it just started walking away. He always swore that was a ghost deer and all the shots must have just passed through it. He was a crack shot and had check sighted the gun the day before.
He lost a pile of shirttail at next seasons “trial and sentencing”.
After looking at it, I posit the guy is taking a long shot at a downhill angle and its steep enough that, while he’s holding over he should be taking 12-18 inches off the hold over.
Depending on weight and BC, if he’s shooting a 30-06 or .308 he’s going to have anywhere from ~40-70 inches of drop at 500 yards. The impacts seem to show he’s over, and walking them up a bit.
That is not a long shot. The flight times are too short to be more than a couple of hundred yards. Also the camera is quite a distance to the right from the shooter. That’s why the vapor trail is seen so clearly.

There’s a second give or take a tenth between shot and impact, at 2000 fps (a reasonable average velocity with respect to what most people shoot for deer and pencils out close enough for even lower end BC soft points in .308) that’s going to be a 660 yard shot. Additionally, all of the vapor trails are distinctly arced, if it was a 100 or 200 yard shot it would be close to the rifles zero and would appear a lot straighter.
