I have never been without a job and can't imagine what it is like to sit around at home all day. Five hours from now I wake up and get back on the train and commute back to Manhattan. Pretty much from 5:30 am to 7:30pm I am away from home working. Except weekends and holidays.
How do people not work? Is welfare and food stamps that lucrative?

All of them living off of defrauding you and me.
Astonishing.
.
I worked for our welfare dept for years. I started out as an account clerk in Food Stamps and then became an eligibility worker for MediCal.
I sat down and figured out one day that between a full time babysitter, gas, clothing, food, etc. I was bringing home almost nothing. The welfare clients were better off than me. I quit and went back to tending bar at night so I could go to school during the day. Got my bachelor’s in Bus Ad with a concentration in accounting and never looked back.
Yep, there you are. We work our tails off not for our own families but for theirs.
