When was the last time gas masks were really needed? WW1? I’d take my chances.
That is Muslim attire.
I said almost immediately post-9/11 that we should organize a Sikh regiment similar to the British Gurkhas. That said, I am less than keen on this accommodation.
The potential was very real in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and a lot of folks spent time in MOPP gear.
Then there were things like this:
Casualties of Iraqs Abandoned Chemical Weapons

Abandoning proper NBC abilities would be very foolish for a moron military.
/moron/modern/
Though with the Obama service heads, Ray Mabus in particular, we seem headed towards a moron military.
The mask fails to seal. And then you get slime under the mask. And then you die. Horribly.
Yeah, a fighting man could never have a beard. Somebody better tell the Navy.
Agreed. Although a ceremonial uniform might be an interesting exception.
If you join any group with specific rules, either live by the rules or don’t join. It isn’t like he was unaware of expectations when he signed up.
Well isn’t he special. I remember this Marine getting written up for wearing a tank top(civilian attired) coming through the base gate by an MP. Yes, there was certain clothing we couldn’t wear even when not in uniform. The beach was 17 miles away. All of us Marines stuck out like a sore thumb there. My Sargent Major called me into his office and took one look at the write up. Get the **** out of here was all he said.
That seems fair.
Have you been gassed while wearing a beard?
Did your mask seal?
“Now you can tattoo your body from toenail to eyeball and if you want to wear long hair and a beard why not, its Obamas Heroes.”
I read that the Marines were tightening up restrictions on Tats a while back. I guess any Marine of soldier who can make a credible argument about religious liberty can flout that reg too?
The broken clock is right ALL day today.
The only unit more feared than that of Sikhs would be a unit of Ghurkas.
Can you imagine a location formerly held by ISIS the morning after the Ghurkas get done with the place? Hint: I did say formerly held by ISIS. Do not underestimate the smiling little man with the funny looking knife.
That is absolutely correct... That was one of the FIRST things we were told back in 1965.. The Constitution of the United States does not apply to the American soldier... The solder lives, works and breaths under the "Code of Military Justice"...
I distinctly remember the DI saying "You used to be a citizen of the U.S. but now your a$$ belongs to ME..!!!"
:)
But hey, someone wants a turban exception for his non-Christian display of faith in the uniformed services? No problem.
America is f****d.
This isn’t about how they perform. This is about US Army regulations.
lol I totally agree.
Probably just another propaganda stunt.
