I have to agree with the EOTECH as a pretty good sight for aging eyes with most 5.56 platforms. The G33 magnifier (worth the expense) is a must in my part of the country and it is best to have a 7.62 or .308 platform available as well due to the wide open spaces in middle of nowhere Southwest Idaho.

If we do have a second civil war, it would more likely be like Spain 1936-39, as opposed to North vs. South 1861-65. While conservatives are strongest in the South, lower Midwest, and the Plains and Rockies, you can find patriotic people even in large, liberal cities like New York and San Francisco. Likewise, there are leftist adherents even in the deepest red states like Oklahoma. In 1861-65, Copperhead supporters were numerous only in areas adjacent to Confederate territory or around New York, due to mercantile interests and Irish immigrants. Likewise, Union supporters were significant only in areas like east Tennessee, where slavery was almost unknown, and the Texas Hill Country, with its German immigrants.

The nationalist and republican factions in Spain were coalitions, with the former a mix of "throne and altar" traditionalists and fascists and the latter a combination of Communists, democratic socialists, and anarchists. Something like that would occur if we had a civil war. The Spanish Civil War also had an ethnic elements, with nationalist Basques and Catalans generally supporting the leftist republicans. We would have the same issue with blacks and Hispanics leaning to the leftist coalition.

But maybe our new civil war won’t include proxy war by foreign air forces, as in Spain 1936-39 & currently in Syria.

Will there be huge population shifts of political refugees, with conservatives fleeing blue states & vice versa? We already have liberals fleeing liberal states and bringing their liberal ways with them.

Be aware of the race war between Mexicans and blacks before making that assessment.

You make a good point relative to the conflict between blacks and Hispanics. In Spain, the territory of the Basques and the Catalans did not overlap, but in the large cities from coast to coast, blacks and Hispanics do overlap. However, in a large swath of the Southwest, blacks are relatively few while Hispanics are numerous, forming absolute majorities of the rural population from South Texas to Southern and Central California. It looks like black gangs have been defeated in cities like Los Angeles and Phoenix, and middle class blacks have joined their white counterparts in fleeing the Golden State. The overall percentage of blacks in California has declined from 7.7% in 1980 to 6.2% in 2010, and has likely continued to decline in this decade. In contrast, Hispanic numbers increased from 32.4% in 2000 to 37.6% in 2010. The decade to decade increase in Texas is similar (32.0% to 37.6%).

Likewise, the "Black Belt" in the Mississippi Delta has become increasingly black as white populations dwindle. As a whole, states like Alabama and Louisiana have had black populations decline, but the Black Belt counties have had noteworthy increases in the black percentage of the population. Sine the 1930s, Communists and black nationalists have wanted to establish an African-American country in the Black Belt.

I'm of the line'm up and squeeze'm school. Accuracy of fire trumps volume of fire. Can't hurt them if you cain't hit'm.

I was replying to a guy that says he can't see'm and is bulking his rifle up with a bunch of optics and cantilevered magnifiers.

For him, my advice stands: go full auto with a stripped down, lightweight rifle and spray and pray.

On a personal note, I've been getting a lot of satisfaction from my new Shiloh Sharps Quigley in 45/70. Sending a 535 gr chunk of lead to targets out to 800 yards with black powder is quite enjoyable.
