Sorry, didn’t see where he called him out because he’s white.
I’m not a fan of Abdul Jabbar. But I don’t see anything overtly racist in his analysis Dirk.
Stupid column about a stupid comment.
As a PHX Suns fan I sure would have loved to have had Dirk on any of our teams. Guy often was just unstoppable.
I saw a distinct lack of respect for the man as a player but nothing that referred to his race. Big nothing burger there.
I took him to mean that in his era, Dirk would have been expected to do more.
Check out Jabbar in the movie Airplane where he tells the kid to have his dad haul Walton and Lanier up down the court all night...
Kareem is a racist, but I don’t think his comments here were based on race.
That was extremely funny, esp. when he denies being Kareem.
Coach is very often wrong, but at least this one is of little import.
On the issue of / KAJ his view is no more or less important than any other ex-players.
One would of course wonder had KAJ not fist been coached by J.Wooden at UCLA then left the Bucks for LA then had Irvin Johnson and AC Green et al and an era of the NBA that really wanted the Lakers vs Knicks/Celtics/Bulls in the finals. If he would be a remembered as he is now.
Of course that is the issue if things are not the same they are different.
Do I think KAJ’s view is affected by his race, religon, age, era he played in .. Yes but that is called life.
I’m white and I’ve always thought Dirk was overrated. If he was actually tough on defense, he’d be arguably better than Larry Bird. But, he’s soft and will never be in the same league as Bird was.
Maybe that’s more along the lines of what Jabbar was trying to express. Plus, he’s now a old man and getting into the “why in my day ...” phase of life. Is he racist in his attitudes? As a black muslim how could he not be? But these comments of his about Nowitzki don’t seem to be based on race as much as a critical look at the man’s overall game.
He is probably the second best Power Foaward (though mostly a stretch 4) in the NBA during his era. Of course the Best Power forward ever plays a few miles south on I-35.
Yeah, Kareem said in the same interview that Tim Duncan has had a better career than Kobe. Kareem has some odd views, but I don’t see them as racist.
He’s pissed because Dirk is married to a black woman.
