Fascinating thread. We need to have more discussions on the John Birch Society.

“How about for those with satellite internet that is throttled, we can’t watch videos. Not everyone has broadband.”

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Either we don’t have satellite broadband (or have to pay more for high speed) and need to go somewhere that does, or the cellular data costs quickly add up and require the need to go somewhere where there’s free public wifi access. I usually have quite a few links saved up that were sent to me from friends and others recommended here on FreeRepublic before I make the trip to somewhere with a public high speed wifi connection. Similarly, it’s quite rare for me to head out to the big screen to watch a movie without knowing a bit about it beforehand. It’s almost a two hour drive for me to get to the closest movie theater, so I don’t go very often.

I don’t think so. Communists have always used Muslims as tools to foment chaos, and Obama seems to be acting no different. He also, in less guarded moments, has shown the typical disdain for religion that Communists always espouse.

I can't say I agree with you, I know nothing about the JB but I think Pat Buchannan was one and based on that, I don't think they're anti-Semitic, they are just pragmatic about it and don't support America pushing and paying for Israeli issues. Not supporting does not equal anti-Semitic.

They published and sold books by anti-Semites like Nesta Webster and Prince Michel Sturdza. One of the eleven men who founded the Society was the rabid anti-Semite Revilo P. Oliver. All the prominent anti-Semites, including Willis Carto, Jack Mohr, and Ben Klaassen, started out in the Birch Society. The conspiracy theory they peddle is the classic anti-Semitic theory with the word "Jews" removed.

As for "not pushing and paying for Israeli issues," they supported pushing and paying for every other country under attack by Communists (Rhodesia, South Africa, Nationalist China, South Korea, Somoza Nicaragua, Pinochet Chile). Israel is the only country under attack by Communists that they don't want to help. What does that tell you???

I was a member of the Birch Society. They are evil.

The libertarians creeped in over the last 25 years. In the early days they were more pro national defense, fighting wars to win when wars are necessary instead of police action stalemates, and went after communists and the blame America crowd exposing Hanoi Jane and others.

With one exception: they don't support Israel against its Communist enemies. In fact, they're quite hostile to it.

I think it depends when and where you are talking about. You may well be right about the current situation. But the Birch Society was not pro-life, for instance, back in the early days.

I don't know where you get that idea. They were pro-life before Roe v. Wade was ever handed down.

I recall a Bulletin in which they called on members in all states where abortion was illegal to write to federal military hospitals located within them to call on them to stop providing abortions.

And yet the Birchers and other "palaeoconservatives" support those Communist moslems against Israel.

I know little about them. I know little about you. I know some about Pat Buchanan and don’t believe he is anti-Semitic.

I also know that anti-Semitic is used today as a general means to slander somebody who merely disagrees with American policy towards Israel.

I do believe however that NATO should have adopted Israel in the 60’s-70’s time frame. They’re a beautiful race with higher intelligence traits than most and we have let them become demonized to the point to the point of irrational hate from the Arabs.

This could have been snipped at the root just after the first Arab Israeli war.

Instead we opted for the oil over Israel.

Was Truman an anti-Semite? Eisenhower?

My father was an officer in the British army and stationed in Israel in 1946. There’s only three races I ever heard him disparage. The French Algerians, the French in general, and the Palestinian Arabs. He hated the color orange if you get the meaning.

People who call for US support of other countries under Communist attack, but who single out support for Israel as a bad thing, are also anti-Semites.
