I guess the joke was on me.
If the Czar was still in power, Putin would have served the Czar with equal vigor.
Why the hell would you say that? I asked nicely if you could provide some of the predictions and you suggest I may end up like someone out of the film Idiocracy. Not that I owe you any kind of explanation, especially after your rude comment, but I don’t immedIately go and watch a YouTube video due to it costing money. Yes, I do 100% of my computer/Internet on a mobile device using a cellular connection. IF a video seems like it may be something worth watching, I head to a place where there is free wifi and watch it there rather than getting charged for overages on my cellular data plan.
Maybe you ought to not be jumping to conclusions without having any information to base such on, further, why get all insulting?
One more thing Fhios, you said I need to beware of the alphabet media. I don’t watch such. Got rid of a TeeVee many years ago. FreeRepublic is my main source of getting news. Is that good enough for you?
“But their problem was essentially that they were libertarians, not conservatives. They had no moral values, and argued that government should be stopped from preventing individuals from doing whatever the hell they liked.”
The libertarians creeped in over the last 25 years. In the early days they were more pro national defense, fighting wars to win when wars are necessary instead of police action stalemates, and went after communists and the blame America crowd exposing Hanoi Jane and others. They’ve always stood their ground as far as not compromising the 2nd amendment and have never advocated anarchy. Some may disagree with their conspiratorial views but who cares, if you agree with them on stopping the international advance of Socialism does it really matter if you agree with them on the driving force behind it? I would rather focus my attention on fighting leftists then bickering about the JBS.
Fhios we may be discovering that the world we thought we knew is hiding a reality whose exposure is coming. I too wondered about those horrible Birchers when I was a kid. I did once buy a booklet at one of their stores, expecting to wondering if I’d be accosted by people in white hoods with holes for eyes. The book was like reading the an explanation of the Constitution - nothing exciting to a naïve young man. We all still need to belong to something; it may be a survival instinct. We also need to think independently, and that is anathema to the left.
Along these lines I recall reading, with citations to the NY Times and WaPo, the horrible crimes of Joseph McCarthy, convening kangaroo courts to get the brilliant director and writer Dalton Trumbo blacklisted (my parents were small players in the industry, and Trumbo’s trial was symbolic). There was an “atmospheric” movie about those hearings. A few years ago I learned that McCarthy was a senator, and had nothing whatsoever to do with the House Un-American Activities Commission. How did the NY Times make such a grievous mistake? Was it a mistake? How did an employee of now CIA Director Brennan get into State Department Archives to “cauterize”, according to Condoleezza Rice, candidate Obama’s state department records? What can we believe of statements coming from our government or the progressive media?
First, the very readable book by Diana West, “American Betrayal” is an excellent start. Did you realize that a KGB Officer in the FDR administration, Alger Hiss, created the United Nations? Did anyone tell you that KGB officer Harry Dexter White, Asst Treasury Secretary, created the IMF (International Monitary Fund) and World Bank, vehicles to transfer US wealth to whomever its officers decided; Tim Geitner’s father was one of those officers. When we sent Cossacks, anti-Bolsheviks refugees back to almost certain torture and death in post WWII USSR, so-called Operation KeelHaul was a creation of group of the hundreds of Soviet Agents practically running the U.S. Government during FDR’s failing years.
If he hadn’t begun to release, though only after the USSR failed and papers were coming out with defectors and refugees anyway, decryptions of cables exchanged between spies in our government and the USSR, the “Venona Papers”, we would still be blind. Of the two million or so cables that were intercepted only about two thousand have been decrypted and published. We may actually have engineered the fall of Chang Kai Shek, whose armies fought the Japanese, to allow Mao to impose his version of communism, strongly supported by the Soviets, upon China.
The remarkable Mrs. West was virulently attacked after her book was published in 2012 by well known old communists, David Horowitz (Frontpage.com) and Ron Radosh, another “red-diaper-doper-baby” “historian”, who repeatedly called her names and cited issues that were not in her book at all. To see that process, Alinsky at work, is worth the time reading her book. Brightbart has published most of her rebottles, which are devastating, and reveal the well-learned techniques of propagandists, which Horowitz was, for decades, as an editor of probably the most important Marxist journal, Ramparts, disappeared around the time the USSR failed, and where Presidential Science Adviser John Holdren often worked during the late 70s and 80s while being paid to teach “Green” environmentalism to naïve Berkeley college students.
For a painless introduction here is Mrs. West’s lecture to a group in Boston just after the publishing of American Betrayal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1l5nq2ujLL0 Paraphrasing Mrs. West, or M. Stanton Evans, or Herbert Romerstein’s “Stalin’s Secret Agents” would be tedious and probably unread. Evan’s speeches are available on YouTube, and he was (just passed away) brilliant with a famous sense of humor. Listening is fun. Hopefully some will want to learn more and buy or borrow the books.
Evans will tell you about the comment FDR, in his last few months of life at the Yalta conference, gave to Stalin when “Uncle Joe” asked what FDR was going to talk with King Saud about. Paraphrasing just a little “I’m going to offer him the six million Jews we have in the U.S.”
Yalta was run by Alger Hiss. Hiss, with Churchill acquiescing, gave more than half of Europe to the Soviets for whom Hiss was working. The papers of the designated Secretary of State, Edward Stettinius, who had been on the job for about two months, were disappeared from government archives. Stanton Evans finally found a copy in FBI archives, the only place agents had difficulty cleaning.
Now I’ll go back and probably learn some truth about the Birch Society.
My apologies Fhios, your still a noob.
The surprise would have been if taxes and the deficit and the size of government had decreased and the dollar had increased in value.
Thanks for posting the predictions. I’ll have to watch it later.
I know what I'm talking about. I used to be a member.
Thanks for sending me to Youtube land. It took me about an hours to get out. Haha.
I'm as anti-Birch as you can get, but that is simply untrue. The John Birch Society was and is a "palaeoconservative" organization. While they are libertarians on economic issues they are very socially and morally conservative. One of their ad hoc committees was the Movement to Restore Decency.
The Birch Society is primarily made up of three types of people: Rushdoonyian "reconstructionist" Protestants, sedevacantist Catholics, and Feeneyite Catholics. Despite the fact that their founder was an evolutionist Unitarian who rejected orthodox chrstianity (and despite their claimed neutrality in religious matters) they essentially push the aforementioned three religious philosophies as the answer to all the problems of the world.
I think it depends when and where you are talking about. You may well be right about the current situation. But the Birch Society was not pro-life, for instance, back in the early days.
I can’t say I agree with you, I know nothing about the JB but I think Pat Buchannan was one and based on that, I don’t think they’re anti-Semitic, they are just pragmatic about it and don’t support America pushing and paying for Israeli issues. Not supporting does not equal anti-Semitic.
With that said, I’m an ardent supporter of Israel and support their effort to declare Jerusalem as her capitol. I do not support America pushing and paying for Palestinian issues, but I’m not anti-Palestinian
— just in case you thought I was anti-Semitic.
Thanks, there’s much to think about there. It’s been driving me to a cynical Nihilism over the past few years, but then I’m aging and finding my taste in everything is changing. I’m going from a 60’s 70’s Rock and roll is the only music to loving 1940’s jazz era music fan and have fallen in love with the blues.
1977 I thought Star wars was the best movie ever, today I think Star wars VII was under developed and rushed movie that I would rate no greater than 6.
How about for those with satellite internet that is throttled, we can’t watch videos. Not everyone has broadband.
I’m thinking it’s a never ending battle with communism. It just has to be continually fought.
