Well, I read both the McKenzie and Limbaugh accounts.
McKenzie fancies himself an historical purist, and looks down on Rush from his academic perch and finds him wanting. Ultimately he concludes that the reason for Thanksgiving was to thank God for a bountiful harvest.
Rush wants to introduce and educate young children to the concepts of socialism, free market capitalism, and a strong belief in the Almighty. Ultimately he concludes that Thanksgiving was to thank God for a bountiful harvest.
Rush is writing for today, while McKenzie is stuck in his Ivory Tower cobwebs.

Sorry, I disagree. This is the EXACT VENUE for this endeavor. And it’s Thanksgiving, that is why I posted this topic. For discussion and to learn about which understanding of history is more accurate.

OK, since you used the word “inane”, I’s like you to tell me clearly and logically what portion of my post meets the above adjective. This thread is about learning from one’s mistakes, so you can be helpful here.

Yes, both of them do conclude that Thanksgiving was to thank God for a bountiful harvest.
The main disagreement that author has with Rush is his contention that the Pilgrims and William Bradford’s government were not exactly “free market” in the way Rush described it and he presents historical data to prove it.
My personal contention on the other hand is this — it is UNFAIR to expect them to understand the total concept of free market capitalism. They were not economists after all, and they had to slowly learn how to put it in action after realizing their mistakes.
However, even a small step towards the free market and away from socialism worked well for the colony. Imagine how much more bountiful and prosperous the economy would have been had there been minimal intervention from their government...
This one, the author does not address.
In other words, Rush’s thesis — that free market enterprise leads to more prosperity than socialism has not been rebutted ( although I think that was not the writer’s intent ).
Rush is writing KIDS BOOKS. The goal is to introduce them to the concepts, not the ivy tower minutiae that would make it perfect. I read the article, I’ve heard Rush’s rendition several times on air, Rush ISN”T wrong. He merely simplifies ideas so kids can understand.
But I assume poking at Rush is one way to get your bemused writings noticed in the world.
