That’s why they pulled this out now to show everyone. Maximum leverage for funding. There have been rumours of these flowing water images floating around for some time (no pun intended).

This is a fascinating announcement. Good news for those of use who might one day seek to leave this quickly globalizing/socializing planet. You have LIQUID water. With a power source, you can get O2, you can grow stuff, breathe, live... lotsa fun things you can do with cool ole H2O

Yes and I am curious as to what shook it loose now. There has been low level talk on some of the “fringe’ websites that they were sitting on data about water on Mars for sometime but nothing verifiable. I suspect this is a funding ploy.

It is the difference between your discovering a flowing underground reservoir beneath your property and seeing dew on the grass. That’s kind of a big difference. The data also supports this as being H2O and not something else that forms ice on the poles.

I find it interesting that they timed this big announcement (really a restating of what we learned in the 1970’s from the Viking missions) for exactly when Obama was delivering his speech at the UN.

Actually, when Mariner 9 discovered what looked like dried up river beds in 1971, the speculation immediately began on just long ago did Mars have flowing liquid water on the surface.
