Since the writer (I assume) is Canadian (the bio at the site didn’t say) and using the word WE, he must be writing about Canada leaving the UN, right?
US out of UN, UN out of US, NOW! Send them packing to Paris, Brussels or Beijing!

Importantly, the means to get rid of the UN are a little subtle, but would work wonders.
The US should encourage Moscow and Beijing to build their own UN headquarters buildings, with the idea of “rotating” the HQ of the UN every decade.
While on the surface this sounds asinine, that is, “more UN”; if you think about it, it would be both hilarious and destructive to the organization.
Taking into account the western delegates to the UN, many of whom have PhD’s, the *average* education of delegates is “fifth grade”, with many of them having no formal education at all and being entirely illiterate. For many years, the UN hired illustrators to make comic books to explain complex issues to delegates. It didn’t help much.
Every year they vote their favorite snack food as “fried locusts”. Most delegates think the Moon landing was faked, just another Hollywood movie. Every day, UN security confiscates dozens of weapons from delegates, including knives, blow guns, poisons, and hand guns. It all sounds unreal and insane.
Now take this useless band of primitives, and plunk them down in the middle of modern police states, xenophobic ones, Moscow and Beijing, and let the fun begin.
At first, they will try and “turn” delegates, providing them hookers and drugs and alcohol, until they realize that *nobody* cares what they think or do. The only reason they have a job is because they are second cousin to their countries’ dictator, and have been sent out of their country for molesting too many goats.
It took decades to teach the NYPD that delegates are excused from all crimes and debts. I can imagine it would take the Moscow and Beijing PD much longer, and many delegates would get righteous thumpings in the meantime, for offenses like hookers, alcohol, drugs, and molesting goats.
In any event, when it is approaching time for the UN to rotate back to the US, we can suggest that other countries build UN headquarters: Harare, Zimbabwe; Mogadishu, Somalia; Brazilia, Brazil; etc.
Get US out of the UN!
Until recently the answer was “so that we could use our Security Council veto to protect our friends and allies, like Israel.”
But anymore I’m as befuddled as you are.
Because when we had the opportunity to change it, John Bolton did nothing. I am still pissed about that.

So, why are we still in the United Nations?
