This is unconstitutional. We want amendments that could kill a bad bill as the Constitution allows. We want 66% approval not 51% .Call Congress . Tell them to vote no on TPA (Trade promotion authority).

I am seriously offended by his stance on Fast Track. How do you stop Obama by giving him everything he wants to destroy our sovereignty? One World Order seems to have it all tied up!

We can go back and forth on this all day. Prove to me that the recent trade agreements have benefited the US. Now show me how a trade agreement negotiated by the current administration will benefit the US any more than the trade being conducted now.

We also live in a world where small business and mom and pop stores are closed and shuttered! What has WallMart done to keep small town America alive? What has WallMart done to help American manufacturing? Where has WallMart done anything but promote CHINA? Walmart has built a WALL against American manufacturing and small business. It is GOOD for China and bloody damn BAD for the US.

I am assuming this newly passed stand alone TPA House bill must get 60 votes to pass the Senate instead of a bare 51 vote majority to avoid a filabuster?

What if I want to sell them my goods?

You can’t.

Try mailing a 1 pound package to China form the US. Costs about $17. And the Chinese? What do you think they pay for that package to send to the US? About $3-$4.

Nobody in China will want your goods at the price you have to ask. This is a one way corportist “free Trade” Tsunami about to hit us on Main Street.

Well, considering that we exported $121 billion in goods to China in 2014 I'm not sure I can accept your premise.

More importantly, with the vast majority of the world's consumers outside the US I don't think the answer is to throw up our hands and say we won't try to compete.

Two things that will help us are better intellectual property protections and more favorable rules around the export of services, which is where the US has one of the biggest advantages. Both are supposedly addressed in TPP and are typically part of our trade agreements.

Put simply, most of the world's consumers are outside the US and that percentage is only going to grow. We can isolate ourselves and not participate in this growth or we can engage and help set the rules for trade. Either way the rest of the world will march on. If we're ever to level the playing field trade agreements are the mechanism.

You present a false choice. No deal is better than a Top Secret bad deal. Bush released the text before asking for TPA. Requesting Obama do the same is the bare minimum we should expect from a GOP Congress.

So what product do you ship to China?

How’s the South Korea trade agreement working out? Are we getting what we were promised? Why should we believe TPP is a great deal? Where is your evidence it is?

Cruz showed that he takes conservative supporters for granted. That is political arrogance.

Cruz will have a chance to redeem himself in the eyes of many when the stand alone TPA House bill comes up for a vote in the Senate. Assuming this new TPA bill will need 60 votes for cloture before it makes it to the floor for a final vote, Cruz can vote against cloture to help keep this new TPA bill from reaching the floor for a final vote.

Cruz has to realize that his support for the previously passed Senate TPA/TAA bill has damaged him significantly and if he is as smart as he is perceived to be, will take full advantage of this chance at political redemption and vote against cloture when the new TPA bill comes up in the Senate.

I don't export anything, but here's a good table showing the diversity - both in products and geography - of US exports to China: Exports to China by Zip Code. How many US jobs do you think are generated by this trade?

As regards Korea, I don't know much but it looks like it hasn't been a big boost for the US. I know some of the tariff reductions were phased in over 5 years so there may be more impact felt, but we'll have to see.

I’m not advocating protectionism. Merely arguing that in the progressive era encouraging Marxist regimes to negotiate new world order wolves dressed as trade agreement sheep can only produce negative consequences for the US. I would like to see a trade agreement negotiated to the US advantage not the other way around. IMHO world markets need access to the US more than we need access to them. Previously the US was the main driver of the world economy.

If manufacturing moves outside of the US how does that benefit America? Those "world consumers" won't be buying exclusively American made goods, will they?

Made In America is being replaced with "Made in Mexico" or "Made in China". It's been that way for years. Go to any Wal-Mart and about 70-80% of the goods on their shelves are not "Made In America".

True. If Cruz reverses his support for TPA he will go along way toward repairing his chances at the nomination. I am not holding my breath. It seems once someone is co-opted by the “money people” they are bought and sold. Judas always could have repented, but instead he doubled down.

The American populace “votes” by where they choose to spend their money. That’s free enterprise.
If America hates Walmart, Walmart goes out of business. Its been five years since I’ve been in a Walmart and I live in a major metropolitan area.
I vote for small entrepreneurs in my neighborhood.

Look what happened in WW II. America was able to produce massive amounts of planes, tanks, ships, and so on. Today we couldn’t do what we did then. We’ve even lost our steel mfg.and don’t mine lead any more. Evey time i pull the trigger, I wonder what country supplies the shot.
