Trying to figure out that finger gesture. It’s not the Hawaiian peace/birth certificate symbol. Maybe it’s a muslim gesture.

There are several theories as to the origin of the word Baphomet. This is one of them from the Oxford English Dictionary.

Not quite -- notice in the example below (and in any other, just google if you want more images) two fingers and the thumb are extended. The statue of the devil at the top of the thread has the two fingers extended and the thumb completely folded over -- this was an ancient Roman symbol which indicated speech. Christians instead extended three fingers when speaking, or preaching, to symbolize the Trinity. Early Christian art contains both, and Christians gradually changed to mostly/exclusively using the three-fingered speech indication. The gesture used by the pope is the one that Christians adopted, the three-fingered. But there is nothing sinister in either the two or three fingered gesture, anymore than placing a big Mac in the hands of a devil statue would render fast food satanic.

I don't see any evidence for such things in the universe until the human being became capable of abstracting them from within his own mind. That is the beginning of evil. Not before. If you don't think so, please cite any specific instance to the contrary.

On the other hand the universe itself and its mathematical and mechanical structure offer ample evidence for God having brought it forth. The statistical probabilities of combinations allowing life having simply come about, jointly, on their own appear staggeringly remote.

I’m not sure Wiccans really know what they’re practicing because there doesn’t appear to be any line that carried it down through the ages.

Most of what they practice was made up in the last 30 or 40 years.

Back in the middle ages of the internet, whenever that was ( the nineties, I guess, ) I found a Wiccan web page that had a moon image for its logo, but it was the widely promulgated "Apollo 11 moon", an image taken from 10 or 20 thousand miles away, and from a perspective not seen from earth, although it does show most of the familiar maria.

Oh, the irony.

This image appeared in many movies and ads. It's used in BEASTMASTER, which was the first time I noticed it. It did a multi-year stint as the night time orb for the Weather Channel, which corrected this "error," such as it was, a few years ago.
