I never understood until Fergueson and Baltimore why the LA police pulled out so quickly. They apparently didn't want to further inflame the savages, but look what happened. Plus, IIRC, Chief Gates was out of town at the time.
I also bought another weapon and ammo while that was going on. I owned/operated a warehouse in Pico Rivera next to East Los Angeles (gangster town). The riots were also moving eastward because unbeknownst to the general public, much of the rioting involved Latinos. I saw videos and photos of them trashing Parker Center (LA Police HQ).
My son and brother-in-law were on stand-by should it move further east. We were prepared to do what the brave Koreans did to defend their livelihood.
The whole episode was so dis-spiriting as I watched Los Angeles burn. The worst part was the Fire-fighters giving up because they didn't have LEO to protect them from being shot at. Think is was 5 days until the National Guard finally moved in. And as I've said before, not sure that's what stopped the carnage. I think it was just a matter of the savages getting hang-overs and just tired, plus nowhere else to loot/burn that wasn't in their "hoods".
Like all rioters, they dared not go into white middle-class neighborhoods. They knew and still know that we are armed. Give me one instance where racist rioters ever invaded such a neighborhood. Bet you can't.
My father and his twin brother had just completed training as Landing Craft Drivers and were on their way to take part in Operation Olympic.
When my son was little I took him to an Airshow at Stewart Field near Poughkeepsie. I was able to get into the pilot's tent and introduced him to General Chuck Sweeney who commanded the B-29 "Bockscar" in bombing of Nagasaki.
I explained about my father and thanked him for making us possible. He was very gracious and knelt down to talk to my son and point out a few planes to him.

Most people don’t realize how different the US/world would be had the bombs not been dropped.
They were expecting around 1,000,000 casualties IIRC.
Not to mention Russia might have thought making a move on Europe while we were tied up with Japan was a good idea.
Those bombs put the fear in Russia too.
They won't go into middle-class residential areas, both for fear of being shot, and because they know there's not that much to loot there.
What's there to loot in a residential neighborhood? Would they be interested in my 4-year-old TV? My toaster oven?
The wealth of the middle class is not inside their homes, it's in the shopping malls, and that's where they will seize it. They know the cops will not shoot, and the middle-class home owner won't shoot unless his home is directly threatened.
Meanwhile, the looting directly impacts your stock portfolio and bank account, and steals wealth from it. The value of your WalMart and Target stocks will go down, as well as those companies that supply the stores. Your insurance prices will go up, as insurance companies have to cover their losses. The prices you pay to buy stuff will go up, as the stores have to factor in looting as a cost of doing business.
