What version of Illustrator, computer hardware, OS, etc.
Do you think a reinstall would help or not
Back in the old days when I had Illustrator launch problems I would delete the preferences file and replace with a fresh one. Something like that but it worked. Search for ‘delete preferences’ and try it.
1. Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Illustrator. Your current settings are deleted.
2. Remove or rename the AIPrefs file (Windows) or Adobe Illustrator Prefs file (Mac OS). New preferences files are created the next time you start Illustrator.
I would try Item 2. Remove the file to your recycle bin and Illustrator will create new preference file when you reboot.
Its does that now when you attempt to create a Cert. of Live Birth.
“when you reboot” I meant “when you relaunch Illustrator”. Hope that works.
Silly you..everyone knows you have to pay extra for the toolbar....
Ilustrator CS4
Mac Pro
system 10.5.8
I skipped a version of CS,....and had to hve a adbode tech walk me through the Initial ..Install of CS4 ...as an update
I dont even know that I have the disks
Ive done that.
I dont know that I understand what all can be in that folder.
by that I mean if everything in the folder where the preferences reside should be deleted
does everything In the file folder named Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings “want to be deleted?
Oh. I heard they made an old version free.... I wonder if I should get that
As you may know with the newer “cloud-based” versions of Creative Suite you are “logged in” to the application when you log onto the machine. Sometimes things go sideways (”It’s a feature, not a bug!”). Try logging out of the suite and then back in to see if it restores missing functionality before you uninstall/reinstall that behemoth.

Im running CS4 which preceded the cloud
Sorry - I didn’t see that until after I posted.
Also, it seems that you are opening a document that REQUIRES plug-ins in order to render properly. I would look for these plug-ins and install them because you do not have what you need to see the file. Does a plain type of file open or just the file in question? What happens when you open a 'new document' that you are going to create?
Have you tried installing a 'pre cloud' version of CS like CS4? You can download from a torrent site if you're torrent savvy. It's a pain to install, so many steps!
