Our nation has been dumbed down a mile below the once recognizable level of Stupid.
Degrading the fire department in pursuit of some social engineering goal is not a very good idea anywhere, let alone a huge, densely populated city.
I have a lady on my truck. She’s as tough as nails, but weighs 100 lbs, 5ft 3”.
She’s very willing to do the job just not able allot of the time.
My Captain has gotten us together apart from her and said “ dainbramage does not go in on the nozzle with only her behind him, make sure you grab another man off another truck to get behind her or don’t go in, we all go home alive”.
I remember thinking WTF.
First fire we made after that I was thirty feet into an attic and couldn’t move the hose any farther because she couldn’t pull it up through the scuttle hole anymore and her back up was stuck down in the garage.
All I could do was turn on the water and start spraying the whole damn thing down blindly hoping it wasn’t coming around behind me. Felt like a steamed lobster before it went out.
What an insult to the female population.
Just another example of radical egalitarianism. Certain quotas must be met no matter what.
I briefly worked with a guy years ago who had applied to be a firefighter in a city. He had failed the initial test where he had to lift a ladder and place it on the rack on the truck. These stories always remind me of that. The low strength hires won’t even be able to clean up the scene after the fire.
I’m sure the first wheelchair bound and blind firemen wont be far behind....

"OTHERWISE-COMPETENT?" That means they aren't competent in the physical strength department, and therefore should either be pushing a desk or out of the force altogether.
PING!
If I tried to do that, I'd probably end up on the floor. That's why I don't apply to become a cop or firefighter.
Thanks
