It will be a very different world, after 90% are dead. That’s for sure. Only the very strong or the very lucky will be alive. Many very strong people will die, wrong place-wrong time. If you are in Manhattan or LA when the power goes out coast to coast for a year, your chances will be mighty slim of seeing two more birthdays.

They are better and cheaper than ever. Everybody should get some, with deep cycle batteries, just to run critical systems.
Mmmmm...and a nice rub. Obese kids, the other white meat. Just pick around the nerve tissue.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a solar ejecta, an ISIS attack, a cyber attack, or what causes the grid to go down. It really isn’t important. In fact, we might never know for sure what caused the grid to go down, since the talking heads won’t be talking on dead televisions.
If the grid goes down for two weeks, it will be an almost unrecoverable situation. Once the stores are looted and the 18 wheelers are all out of fuel, starvation will kick in and our cities will explode.
I don’t see our govt getting Humpty Dumpty back together after our 100 biggest cities are in flames.
Strong ignorant men, and weak ignorant men will die.
There will always be the unlucky good that are at the wrong place at the wrong time.
But knowledge, skills, and practice are the ways to bet.

When The Music Stops: How America’s Cities May Explode In Violence
Yep, the cops will be going door to door to collect supplies in some areas.
Heck people turn feral in about 15 mins as it is, give them a week without food and they’ll be desperate. Most people don’t have more than a couple days of food in their house.
I’ve gone 8 days without food due to a medical issue. Lost a bunch of weight very quickly.
As long as you are in a decent location.
Rambo Einstein will just be among the last cannibals to die in a megacity.
I have been involved with getting electricity into a hangar and we put together a solar system. They really are cheaper than ever and very affordable. Batteries are a tad not-so-cheap but they have come a long way both in storage and reliability. It is easy to get a simple 100 to 250 watt watt system with LED lighting and electricity outlets to power radios and rechargables. Anyone can do it.
Luck comes from preparation not chance.
After a week, half of the cops will be guarding the mayor and other big shots. The other half of the cops will have deserted their posts to guard their own families. We will be on our own. Have you read the essay I wrote and linked a few above, “When the music stops?”
I think you are incorrect on your analysis.
Not your analysis that government will be powerless to do anything... your analysis that says nothing gets done.
We've a history of getting on just fine without a feral government.
They don't do anything anyway, except act as parasites. Everyday people in flyover country make everything go.

When I think megacity I think “arm ants”. They can devour anything! It is easy to face the challenge of a few, but impossible when it is a few thousand.
I’ve read your other books but not that one yet.
Bad luck comes from chance.

Bad practice and pain certainly clears your friggin mind for perfect practice.
Have YOU ever build a wood gas generator and cleaner to run an internal combustion machine?

Please appreciate the wisdom of the statement given to me by my favorite pistol instructor.
I have designed and built machinery of very far greater complexity than in your challenge, and I have done it professionally for decades. And I have done it since being a teenager as recreation using junk materials at hand, as a pastime.
I did not come here for a pi$$ing contest.
I appreciate your skills and I bet you could safely feed a big group of men, and do it under adverse conditions. But don’t challenge me to a machine building contest. Trust me on that.
It’s never been easier. You click on your computer, digits fly around, and the stuff arrives in a brown truck 3 days later.
If the grid goes down, we’ll be telling that “olden days fairy tale” to kids around open camp fires, and they won’t believe us, while gnawing on bones.
It’s just a long essay, the full thing is posted at the link above.
Dead on the money Travis. I’m not sure how many truly get just how fast the meltdown will compound....once the EBT cards are denied....the food and fuel deliveries by the big rigs/trains/ships are halted.....clean drinking water becomes all most impossible to obtain.....firemen and policemen will be unavailable as they will be home protecting their own families etc. etc. etc. Yep, it is gonna spiral up VERY quickly the way I see it.
