I was in high school in the late 70s and I clearly remember double digit unemployment and double digit inflation. Life under Carter sucked.

During Jimmy’s reign my mother worked full time in a factory and with “stagflation” we couldn’t make ends meet. She managed to find an additional part time job cleaning offices a few nights a week and we were still only squeeked by.
