Who is still buying the crap that they manufacture? I drive a THIRTY YEAR OLD Mercedes that I bought for $100 TEN YEARS AGO. Think about that.

I can’t kill this M-B 300D. I had no problem killing a Vega, a Nova, a Kingswood Estate and an Eight-Eight.

Let's hope that continued pressure from media sources encourages GM to start acting in an ethical manner. IOW, let's delude ourselves? Not a chance. I never want to see the inside of another GM dealership, and this only adds to my reasons.

I own an 8 year old C250 Benz w/80k miles. The car has no rattles and still handles like it’s new. Tell me how many new GM’s come off the line that don’t rattle.

You may be right but the lawyers handling these cases are not going away soon and Government Motors looks like their rears are hanging out a mile. I hear you about GM/UAW.

And I have put over 100,000 miles in harsh northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin on a 1994 Chevy Caprice Wagon that I bought six years ago for $1,700. I have driven $75,000 S-class Mercedes and the seats were like molded plastic chairs. The owner spent a lot of money on a car that only saw moderate action.
I won't be buying a post 2009 Chevy, but their older cars are just fine.
Mine seats up to nine, and repairs (outside of tune ups) are reasonably priced. Mercedes does not make a model roomy enough (passenger and trunk) for my taste without going into SUV land.
People have reasons to buy the cars they buy. I am glad that you have had good fortune with your Mercedes. Not everyone does.

You DO know that you should check the oil every once in a while . . .

Good.
I hope GM and, by extension the UAW, get their asses sued clean off. Better get to them before they go bankrupt. (Yes, again.)

I don't know what year your 300D is, and I don't know how old the Nova, Kingswood Estate, etc, were when you killed them. I am pretty good at killing cars myself, and I was most Unimpressed with the '97 Monte Carlo (camshaft. Really?Camshaft? At 65 mph?!) and with the '96 Buick Century (transmission just decided it was done.) BUT, I have had great fortune with the aforementioned '94 Caprice (350 ci) and all manner of Dodge Dart (two out of 7 dying from abuse/neglect, one from rusted torsion bar holders). Darts from the late 60s/early 70s were not an common sight in the rusty northeast even into the mid-nineties, easily outlasting its Nova and Falcon peers from Chevy and Ford.
Much has to do with the type of people who own/drive the cars. That is why Corvettes have AWFUL accident records DESPITE being a safe car on paper.
