Lauren ought to be ashamed of himself.
(but perhaps that word's been expunged from the OED in today's brave new CF)

It could be worse: 12 Ridiculous Olympic Team Outfits Throughout History (http://www.buzzfeed.com/jtes/12-ridiculous-olympic-team-outfits-throughout-hist)
Or, they could be really bad (Norway's Curling Team):

I have just written the U.S. Olympics Committee about how embarrassed I am by the hip-hop gangsta uniforms created for our Olympic team. I have also asked if they're going to be issuing a Saturday Night Special to each athlete.
And I especially noted Ralph Lauren's contribution.

It is categorically inappropriate for a standard uniform that is to be worn by athletes representing the United States to promote the brand name of a commercial business. To make it even worse, the brand is very large and prominently displayed. In the pullover sweater it is the focal point of the design.

That sweater has got to be a prime contestant for an “ugliest sweater” contest/party.

Yep, the uniforms look VERY "Ralph Lauren". They reek of his style. But, things could be worse. The uniforms could look like this:

I like them - sort of a patchworky theme. Patchwork is culturally very much a part of Americana, implying thriftiness, creativity and homemaking; not bad values IMO.
That said, a big ZERO for the polo logo in the middle of the sweater. It’s tacky!

Sweater picture - I didn’t realize that polo could be played while riding a moose. That must be because it’s a winter Olympics sport. :=)

When I first looked at this, I thought the RL was for Right Leg, to help them put on the pants correctly.

Surely, you’re joking? Wool peacoats, knit patchwork cardigans, fleece pants, and black leather skinhead boots are hip-hop?
If they were wearing hoodies, low-slung pants revealing their underwear, unlaced sneakers, and lots of gold bling, you might have a point, but they aren’t.

Could be the RL stands for right leg, to avoid any confusion...
