Base pay for an O6 with over 28 yrs. of service, is over $10,000 per month.
The good colonel didn’t save, and doesn’t get any retirement benefits?
I think not, so question the premise of the entire story.
I’m a vet, I respect our vets, and want the best for them. But I tend to be skeptical about using them in ways that lack credibility.
Excellent. 95% of people can't grasp this simple step. I have been telling my teenage kids this for several years now.
I was serious, I will find him a job if he’s able to get me his resume.
it seems a no brainer that he not pay....If he can’t keep his head above water with his pension, you are correct, he is a no brainer.
He’d do fine here in DFW.
No kidding. The defense outfit I work for is notorious for hiring retired Colonels. These guys think they’re going to bring in all this business. Unfortunately, all their buddies have also retired, and the Major they kept as their coffee bitch all those years is now in charge and hates them.
Only met two that were worth a damn, and both because of their technical abilities.
He had a 30 year military career and is living out of a Van? Um.... What’s he doing with his Pension money?
I’ve known some retired military officers who went to work for Walmart, with the plan being to retire from Walmart, and have their military pension too.
Paying for the kids’ education may have been ordered by the divorce judge. That happened to a cousin of mine. Between alimony to a cheating ex-wife, child support, and tuition, he had nothing left to live on. The order was based on his previous well-paying jobs, and was not changed even though he couldn’t get another such job. He ended up in one room with nothing but a bed and chair.
However his fury over the injustice made him reinvent himself, and today, a dozen years later, he’s rich and happy. So there is some justice.
Google military pension ex-spouse and you may see where his pension money is going.
a leader of men should have no problem being a manager for any business.
of course, i would suggest gathering the right people and starting his own business
A 30 year military career and an officer at that . his retirement pay is better than mine ever will be
and she wasn’t 50plus tears old .
I agree with you but it is not like it used to be. The age you are (or are perceived to be) makes a HUGE difference
It’s a story that just doesn’t really add up.
I'll second that. The colonel, as others have pointed out, must have some other problems than just employment to deal with, since he is eligible for a significant pension. But for healthy people who simply can't get a job it is always possible to find some way to create your own job. Being able to do so is a vital skill, and every young person should learn it.
Needless to say government regulations weigh down on small scale entrepreneurs, but it is still possible to generate your own income without having a "job".
Charley, a new retiree greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldnt seem to get to work on time.
Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker, really tidy, clean-shaven,
sharp minded and a real credit to the company and obviously demonstrating their
Older Person Friendly policies.
One day the boss called him into the office for a talk. Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang up job, but your being late so often is quite bothersome.
Yes, I know boss, and I am working on it.
Well good, you are a team player. Thats what I like to hear. Its odd though youre coming in late. I know youre retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say if you came in late there?
They said, Good morning General, can I get you coffee, sir?
This officer is dealing with three high ticket $$$ issues that pension can’t support & himself as well!
Despite what the Obama administration and the mainstream media are telling you, the truth is that there has been no employment recovery in this country... This just shows how badly the private sector in the United States is failing... As I have written about previously, a lot of unemployed Americans are going to lose their last lifeline now that their extended unemployment benefits are being cut off. In fact, it is being projected that a total of 5 million unemployed Americans will lose their benefits by the end of 2014. Many of those unemployed workers will end up losing everything... Having already raided his retirement savings, Botta thinks hell need to take three or four part-time jobs, working 60 to 70 hours a week just to get by without the unemployment checks. I dont know how people make it on minimum wage, says Botta...The message? We need to raise the minimum wage and extend fed unenjoyment bennies. Thanks SeekAndFind.
