Ultimately, I think the Robertsons will walk. They won’t comprise their values—nor should they—and the suits at Hearst and Disney are terrified at being in GLAAD’s dog house, though they don’t want to lose a multi-billion dollar entertainment franchise.
The Robertson clan knows they have A&E over a barrel. The network and the production hemmed and hawed before raising their pay to $200,000 a show (split among 20 cast members), and the cast hasn’t forgotten that. Other networks will be lining up for a crack at the “new” Duck Dynasty and their deal will be even more lucrative. Then, A&E can fill the time slot with another gay-themed show that attracts no viewers.
