Many people say, if I have to draw my firearm, I will shoot! This ignores that the vast majority of criminals are deterred from attack by an armed person. It is much better to draw your weapon and not have to fire, than it is to wait until you are physically down on the ground and forced to fire.

If you flash your piece to discourage an attack, who is going to know except you and the would-be perp? Who is going to call the cops to report it? Of course this assumes you are not waving a gun around wildly in a crowd and yelling “Stop or I’ll shoot!”
