You know how it is, way down south, with the lazy tongue.
We don't git out much, until we're grown and set in our ways.
To me, it'll always be "lay", and not "latch'-in''.
Sorry.

It looks like Pennsylvania isn't too receptive of hikers.
Is that natural, or were the gathered and laid on the "trail" like that?

Pennsylvania has some rocky terrain but doable in good boots.

I wore combat boots for 26+ years and found them very comfortable, but heavy.
I like
Altama with the Panama Sole.

Many yrs. ago circa 1957 I hiked half of Smokey Mountain NP. Spent 4 days, 3 nights on the trail. Hiked from Waterville to Newfound Gap w/ a side trip up Mt. LeConte.
With a summer camp group.
Our leader? Eustace Conway. Not the one on Mountain Men, Probably his father.
Quite an accomplishment to hike the entire Trail. Twenty miles / day is tough.

I've been doing a lot of research over a couple of years now.
Some can do it in 3 months or less.
But most are closer to six months, and some even longer.
My biggest problem is Diabetes Type II, but there has been others with this problem, older than me that have done it.
I thought I'd start out listening to my body, and go slow, and build up stamina over time.
I wanted to go from North to South, but most people recommend going from South to North for several reasons, food water, weather and operating hours in Maine.
Aging parents and their care is another concern, but I'll get it done.

I’d be pushing it to make one mile marker to the next. :)

I understand.
I grew up on the farm, cutting firewood, fence post, hauling haul, cutting pulpwood and logs.
I'm not near as stout as I use to be, but I believe I can do it.
And that's half of the battle.
