“Their banzai charges worked well overwhelming Chinese armed with bolt-action rifles, but it was a different story against Marines armed with semi-auto Garands.”
The Chinese were starving peasants with little training and perhaps one old rifle for five men.
The British used their 10 shot SMLE bolt action rifles with great effect in WWII.
Not meant to denigrate the Garand, which is a great rifle, but to point out other significant differences. I highly recommend “Shots Fired in Anger” a first hand account of the pacific war on the Islands and in Burma.

Every person who owns a rifle should own and read this book.
Looks like a great book. Right on point. Thanks for the link.
That being said, if the time comes that automatic weapons are needed to defend our liberty the going price for one will be one well-aimed bullet. All that is needed is the willingness and the ability to pay that price.
Shooting these two on the same range trip was shocking. It was like finding out that there really isn't a Santa Claus and that your long-dead grandma is actually still alive on the same day. I'm torn...
That really is interesting. Great post.
Then again it took a Google search to figure out how to remove the bolt on a No 4 the first time I ever stripped one. It was NOT obvious.
Anyway, they are both great guns. I'd feel very well armed with either one.
Your post gave me a new appreciation for the Enfield. I’m glad the Brits had such a good weapon.
You said; “Honesty it just wastes ammo....”
I concur.
