I suspicion if you turn it in to the police - it will be shorlty ‘claimed’ as the amount will then be known

I’d INFORM the police but not give the dollar amount. Inform them and say that the owner will know to amount and by naming it - prove ownership...if no one comes thru’ in a certain amount of time - it’s yours.

What are you talking about? All MO’s have a purchase no.#. Good grief, are you planning a crime? Give it a rest. Do the next right thing.

“Who are they going to track it too ?”

I assumed that the purchaser would be given a tracking number, and that number would be on the moneygram.
I use to send them from the US to Europe, but that was ten years ago. I never handled the moneygram. It was all done
as with a telegram.

If you turn it into the police, they will steal it.

Treat it like found cash that has no findable owner.

The tracking number is on the receipt .The receipt contains the date some numbers are printed on it and that is it. They cannot track a money order if it has never been mailed . This is a moneygram not a USPS money order. These places that sell these moneygrams are third parties agents and there is not very much they can do. The receipt is proof of purchase. .The purchaser is OBLIGATED to complete the money order with purchaser’s and payee’s names or lose recourse for refund if lost .Now without that information how will they track it or report it lost ?I believe a blank money order is the same as cash. Fill it out right away. If it gets lost or stolen, you are out of your money.

The money order ITSELF in two or three places says the purchaser is obligated to fill it out right away..... if you dont Inspect something you buy, especially anything to do with checks money orders money transfers caahiers checks etc, you are just dumb and maybe need to inspect for “the small print” more often....
