A wasted 8 years with bubba and now this imposter. Memories like this make us all feel good for the moment
Greenfield captures the toady arrogance of a society that has lost its way and is accelerating toward its doom. We have allowed the cowards and the con artists control our destiny. Phoney men and women filled with the arrogance of their deceit rule over us. They tell us what is important and we swallow their lies whole.
We were, within the lifetime of some, a nation aspiring to great dreams. No more. Today we squabble about the importance of coddling baby criminals while the rapists and plunderers take everything from us.
Greenfield has captured the essential madness of our time. Read and weep for what might have been. The Eagle Has Landed in a mud hole in DC.

We stopped walking on the moon and started feeding clothing and giving health care to those who will not work.
Lord Byron? Leonard Cohen?
The poetry of Greenfield. Bittersweet, but superb, as always.
But of course, the muslims now claim Armstrong converted to islam in space.
And of course, Obama won’t deny them.
I’m not sure but perhaps it is a good thing that even though we haven’t been back to the moon, nobody else has either...as far as we know.
America was lost when the answer to every question became "more government". I'm old enough to remember when America was a free country, and I mourn the loss of that freedom.
welcome to Rome
Reading this reminded me of the thoughts I had when I read the Foundation series from Asimov; “such an advanced society could never decline, recede & fall like this...”
I am always stirred and inspired reading Dan’s essays, but this one actually brought TEARS to my eyes.
Our situation summed up completely.
Indeed.
I had the joy of watching a Shuttle Launch back in early 2001.I was filled with pride, joy and excitement over the magnificent achievements of our civilization as I watched the Destiny Laboratory being lifted up to its place in the International Space Station. It was America’s Contribution to that effort, and it was a Masterpiece of Science, Ingenuity, and a thing of beauty.
Then, on September 11th of the same year, barbarians from the 7th Century ruined everything.
Absolutely heartbreaking :-(
Bump! Is it time to defend her again? This time the enemy is "within the walls".
Except, of course, the little green guys who were there to greet us.
Not quite, I think. Our politicians realized they could get reelected by enslaving large segments of the population with treats and gifts, then demanding their absolute obedience under threat of withdrawing largesse.
"Republicans want children to starve." Is the mantra of the slaveowner.
Republicans want children to learn to take care of themselves and their children.
Democrats want children to have no family, no job, no skills, and no sense. That will keep them dependent on handouts in perpetuity.
Leonard Cohen?
Both - had to Bing for the Cohen one though.
