As a scholar you know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints never practiced polygamy, only polygyny which is God’s only authorized standard of marriage outside of monogamy. Monogamy reigns supreme with polygyny as the exception.
The purpose, though, of clarifying the distinct difference between polygamy - marriage by more than two people and polygyny - marriage of a man to more than one woman is important. Language communicates and if you lose the ability to communicate you lose the thoughtspace.
Polygyny is practiced in the Bible. It’s been authorized at times by God. Same sex marriage or any other type of marriage has never, ever been authorized by God.
I know the topic of Mormonism attracts you like a fly to butter, but this topic is polygamous marriage. Get your facts straight and remember Pavlov’s famous experiment.
Given that Jesus points to early Genesis and says: 4 Havent you read, he replied, that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female," 5 and said, For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh? (Matt. 19:4-5)...and that Deut. 17:17 warns against taking "many wives" what verses of "scripture" are you claiming specifically authorize polygyny?
Don’t be a bore. Go read your Old Testament. I’m not interested in debating a monomaniac, although good job on using polygyny correctly.
ALL: There ya go. Typical Mormon, 1010.
He claims in one post that God authorizes polygyny. Then can't even cite a single passage where God authorizes it. When his own Book of Mormon (Book of Jacob) condemns it as an "abomination"...
Unlike you, because your false leaders have bogged you down with all kinds of additional false bibles (Pearl of Great Price, Book of Mormon, Doctrines & Covenants, Ensign, New Era, Liahona, official church curricula manuals for priesthood studies, Sunday school studies), I have:
17 He MUST NOT must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. (Deut. 17:17)
What part of "Must NOT" is a conundrum to you?
Or how about all the Lds "prophets" & leaders who married sisters...like Lorenzo Snow who married two pair of sisters? (& others): 18 Do not take your wifes sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living." (Lev. 18:18)
***********
Oh, and before you claim the Ensign, New Era, Liahona, & curricula manuals are not "scripture" to you...any Mormon making such a claim has "flunked" its own "scriptures":
...this is an ensample unto ALL who were ordained unto this priesthood...and this is the ensample unto them, that they shall speak as they are 'moved upon' by the Holy Ghost... [v. 4:] And WHATSOEVER they shall speak when moved upon by the Holy Ghost SHALL BE SCRIPTURE,
shall be the will of the Lord,
shall be the mind of the Lord,
shall be the word of the Lord,
shall be the voice of the Lord...
D&C 68:2-4
(Unless, of course, you claim that Mormon official publication sources are NEVER or RARELY "moved upon by the Holy Ghost")
