I think the military is generally a good “sorter” of men, because they test the mettle in a variety of ways in order to figure out where each person would be best put to use. The German military sorted Hitler and decided he was best suited to being a corporal, so they probably didn’t even see him as officer potential.
I’m sure that Hitler, being an egomaniac, took personal offense at that assessment and felt slighted by it. That’s probably why he held the career German officers in such low esteem, and refused to take their advice time and time again.

Yup - we’re well on our way. I’m in my 50’s and I barely recognize the country I grew up in. I think the rate of change is only going to increase as well.
