I was raised by my Depression-Era grandparents. I believe every word of that.

Growing up, my stocking contained an apple, an orange, a banana, and some pecans or walnuts on Christmas morning. It was a Depression-Era tradition that my grandparents passed on to me. During the Depression, Christmas was the only day they had fresh fruit and nuts. My first Christmas with my in-laws was the first time I experienced “stocking-stuffer” gifts. Frankly, I prefer the fruit and nuts. Heh.

It is rampant on both sides and yes, it is a societal problem.
There is a distinct lack of respect in the world nowadays for tradition.

Then everyone is amazed when individual and relationships become confused.

Take the modern environment for example.
Liberal women remove the man from the family structure, they DEMAND that they raise the boys.
They teach them not to compete, they teach them to love gays, and they are shocked they cannot find a MAN to rock their world.

Financial independence at 20? Only a certifiable prodigy has financial independence at 20 these days. Many people can get somewhat on their feet at that point but they are still dirt poor and looking for financial stabilization.

I don't think it is the occasional help from family that is referred to here, it's the fact that it is complete support from family for so many boys into their 30s.

I'm only starting to get on my feet at 27. It is deeply embarrassing how little I've accomplished so far and how heavily I've depended on my parents. Then again I haven't had the best health. Now that my health is improving after 7 horrible years, I'm hellbent on making progress.

Then there are the healthy 30 somethings who beg mommy and daddy for money, don't lift a finger to do anything, and then bring home a drug addicted prostitute for fun. At least they are aspiring "rock stars" *shudders*

But assuredly, by the time you are 24 or 25, you need to have that full time job and stop sponging off of the parents or the government.

Do you have any idea the crushing depression caused by the current atmosphere, plus not feeling like you have enough experience, or any skills to put on paper, nor having a piece of paper saying you paid people to educate you for four years? The media, women, and the government are all telling me I'm useless because I'm a white male, I have an employment agency that gets me a job once every 8 months or so, I have endocrine diseases that have been destroying me in more ways than one since I was 15, and for a huge majority of jobs I apply for online, I don't get a call asking me a good time to come in for an interview.

Also, not everybody has a good base built for them when they're young, so that's another thing holding people back. At least if I had that, I'd be much better off right now.

Do I want a pity party? No. Do I want you to boo hoo me? No. I just want you to understand that sometimes the circumstances in one's life leads to greater odds of having a difficult time getting life going.

“Today, my 32 year old son is struggling to save enough to move his young wife and kid out of her mother’s apartment. They’ve been there for two years.”

And he’s one of the lucky ones.

I guess my question here - where are all the women?

The ones that you get to pick from are:

1, career woman who doesn’t want kids, doesn’t want you to look after them - doesn’t really want you. Where’s the fun in that?

2, single mom with kids from babydaddy x who she shacked up with while you were working and getting ahead in the world.

THOSE ARE YOUR ONLY CHOICES.

Financial independence at 20?

I have two older brothers, who by the age of 21 were married and the sole breadwinners.

By 24 they owned homes and had children. They were still the sole providers for their families.

This was around 1960, and it was considered normal.

I believe we and the Nation have to put more emphasis on having the educational system start at the high school level or such to have young people not only to know how to manage financial matters but how to look for and develop their own products that others want, can use and will spend money for instead of spending on rock concerts, making millionaires of sports athletes and movie stars and wishing to get rich quick at casinos, etc for other wasteful activities. I am not a prude or inexperienced in the ways of wasteful living but I see much of the spirit that enabled the USA economy to grow to world surpassing levels after WWII required much effort with honest labor. We of the ‘old’ generation had our fun and faults too but these were from our own doing but we kept looking to make a better USA not ‘milking’ It.
