My thoughts exactly. Any American taking any gun into Mexico is only asking for trouble.
And by the way folks
“Mexican President Felipe Calderon”
Calderon is no longer the President of Mexico

Mexico
November 20, 2012
The Department of State has issued this Travel Warning to inform U.S. citizens about the security situation in Mexico. General information on the overall security situation is provided immediately below. For information on security conditions in specific regions of Mexico, which can vary, travelers should reference the state-by-state assessments further below.
This Travel Warning supersedes the Travel Warning for Mexico dated February 8, 2012 to consolidate and update information about the security situation and to advise the public of additional restrictions on the travel of U.S. government (USG) personnel.
According to the statistics last published by the Mexican government in late 2011, 47,515 people were killed in narcotics-related violence in Mexico between December 1, 2006 and September 30, 2011, with 12,903 narcotics-related homicides in the first nine months of 2011 alone. While most of those killed in narcotics-related violence have been members of TCOs, innocent persons have also been killed.
The number of U.S. citizens reported to the Department of State as murdered under all circumstances in Mexico was 113 in 2011 and 32 in the first six months of 2012.
I heard he had permission from the consulate to bring the weapon into Mexico. He did not break any laws. It has been reported that the prison he is in is run by one of the drug cartels. Why any thinking person would even want to go to Mexico is beyond me. You’d probably be safer in Detroit!
It seems that some US customs officer told him that it would not be a problem to have the gun in Mexico. The problem is that the word or a US customs officer has no authority in Mexico.
Also, as you enter Mexico there are large signs that say that guns are illegal in Mexico.
His problem now is that the more publicity his case receives in the US, the higher the price will be to get him out of there.
He will most likely grt out of there, but the family is going to have to pay a large sum of money and/or the US will have to exchange some Mexican criminals held in jail in America.
The one that will not happen is for Mexico to proclaim that US citizens have immunity from prosecution in their county.

Thanks Gene
I can tell everyone this. Lance Corporal Hammar is no longer being chained to his bed and he is not longer in the general population.
He was seen the last of November by the US consulate. He is in a hell hole for sure but the news media is not always correct.
We are doing all we can, the Silver Star Families of America to get him out. AND to make him as comfortable as possible while he is still there.
We are thinking of sending a two man team down to mexico. But it will take funds.
I don’t know right now what the best course would be.
How about a five man team.
