Go fer it, O. Good idea.
He legally can’t do it.
The author doesn’t understand what the NFA is. They would have to create a class for semi-automatic firearms through an act of Congress for the NFA before he could do it as semi-auto firearm do not fit into any current catagory.
However, if he did do so, contrary to Federal law...he’d have to offer a general amnesty of the NFRTR including machine guns. He cannot do a limited Amnesty as that is outlawed specifically in the 1968 GCA. Only a General Amnesty of the NFRTR is authorized except by an act of Congress. He dares not open that door.
I DARE the administration to go down this road. We’ll have an end to the MG ban and a few other nice little things that the anti’s wet their panties just thinking about.
Is anybody surprised?
Tag line applies here.
I’d really like to pick up an ar15 to add to our modest “arsenal”, but the prices are already going up faster than I can save for one.
Been looking at getting one of the 80% lower receivers and doing the finish machining myself. It’s doable, but still, in total, the AR is an expensive rifle to own (although admittedly likely worth it - that doesn’t help me come up with the cash).
Any FReepers built their own SA rifles? Is there another SA I could obtain/build at a better price that would be worth considering? I’ve read the AKs are pretty easy to build due to their sloppy tolerances and I’m starting to look into those, but I’m still learning.
I assume the Commie will start with small steps...I’m sure he knows there are tons of Democrats who like their guns just as well as Republicans do...
I am an NRA-ILA grassroots volunteer. I just checked with the NRA and they told me that this story is not true.
Not gonna happen using that logic anyway. Street sweepers were over 50 cal which brought them under the 1934 NFA. Any kind of re-definition within the 1968 GCA requires congress to do it. With Fast and Furious slowing up in his face I’m guessing Obamuzzie won’t want to tangle with guns for awhile.
Unintended consequences. Expand NFA enough and people will discover its just $200 tax and some paperwork - and a whole new world of guns opens up to them. Those pesky restrictions evaporate: 16” barrel limit? Any length now. Flash suppressors? Get a silencer instead. Semi auto? Heck, full auto - 922(o) would fall soon after. BATFE would be deluged with paperwork, and courts declaring the bureaucratic delays unconstitutional.
And before you say “but in NY”: I bought my first NFA gun in NY, a 12ga pistol (!), all legal to the amusement of the sheriff who signed the forms.
He knows not he game he is about to play...
PING!
