Today, they are jamming people into SSD. There was an article here that showed about 250,000 a month were being approved. Vote buying, nothing more. I think the article’s numbers are bogus, but people are on welfare at a staggering rate.
“We do not qualify for Food Stamps because our income is too high.”
Have you rechecked the numbers lately? I could swear I saw them at $28k recently.
What kind of break do you want? A break from reality? I did not say people don’t game the system and get government handouts. I said the opposite. But putting out inaccurate stuff like this original post, with no attribution and no author, does not help. It makes us look stupid and gullible and not bothered by facts. And yes, you are right, some people game the system while others who genuinely need assistance don’t get it. That doesn’t change the facts of the situation. And for the record, I am a heartless conservative bitch and proud of it. I am also a respecter of truth and accuracy. The autism benefit under SSI is a scandal. You should take that up with your state representative, because the states do eligibility determinations for this program. But in order to be an effective advocate, you have to have your facts straight.
Our little trial, at the moment, is finding out we will be caring temporarily for an additional FOUR grandkids in this little two bedroom house. They are lovely, easy to take care of kids but just the thought makes me a little nutty. My wife takes it in stride, though. For me, it is not that I can't handle the kids — I can't seem to handle THINKING about having to take care of the kids. Oh, well.
Nah we haven't been on them for ourselves in about 17 years. We were on them briefly as kinship foster parents a few years back and that was an automatic.
We were also once on them until my disability was approved in 1995. We were very lucky mine went through on first appeal. There are things people can do themselves that help in the process but SS doesn't tell you. One is your congresscritter. I didn't need a lawyer. But mine was determined in physical disability but rather mental so that may have also been a factor.
They have me down as having General Anxiety Disorder & at the time I was examined I also had PTSD from some bad events I had went through in about 8 years time. Technically I do have G.A.D. but in my case it's a Neurological condition in my case that brings on Myoclonic Seizures. That's why I can't work. I don't pass out etc but I spasm violently at some Auditory and Visual situations. No cure, little is known, just treatable and non life threatening but still disabling.
Right now we get some monetary help from a family member that helps us stay off of food stamps. We're also lucky we only had a ten year mortage and it's been paid off since 2001. We got to meet with a Medicare HMO this week for rreenrollment into another plan due to Obamacare though. If they start hitting us with premiums {Medicaid pays it right now} then yea we'll have to do it. That would be over a $200 cut in our income we could not make up for otherwise.
