I went to a government educational institution in Annapolis and we used to laugh at the calorie counts for the meals. If you ate a serving of everything that was available, it ended up being somewhere around 5500 calories a day. Nobody ate that much, but I bet I was eating over 3k easy.
Here is what I think, about the whole obesity issue.
1. make food a national security issue
2. control production of food
3. control distribution of food
4. control everything
It's his lack of activity in his general daily lifestyle i.e. gaming, surfing the net, watching tv, etc. with no physical activity plus the current generation of parents who don't cook but get processed food or go to McDonald's for dinner. And then sit and watch TV til bedtime.
This will another "but her intentions were good" experiment which will fail because it's stupid.

Our employee health insurance has decreed that we must do biometrics screening to determine our health. If the insurance company decides we must lose weight, they will put us on a ‘wellness’ program. If we do not follow the wellness program and lose the weight, our premiums go up. They told a guy at work that, at 5’11” and 165 lbs, he was fat. Is there a Capitalist country that wants a boatload of Americans who will work hard and make them the new America? Please?

People need to stop thinking that these are unintended consequences. What the government doesn't intend, is for people to catch on. But it knows that they often will, which is why these control-freak despots have their built in "we meant well" plausible deniability card.
No, the government never means well, and these consequences are intended. After all, one size fits all, and Nanny Mooshelf-bootie has decided that every kid is fat and needs to lose the chunk.
The thin, normal weight, and/or highly active students? Just collateral damage - bumps in the road - in fighting the war on obesity. Let them turn into the skeletons in these government death camps, while the plump ones just get fatter.
This is the consequence of people trusting the government to feed their children. Come on, look what the schools have been pumping into the little minds of mush for decades upon decades. The agenda is not to foster sound minds and bodies. It's the sick who will clamor for Obamacare, not the healthy.
