I have two pick fuzzy bathrobes. One is for my cat to kneed, and is thoroughly trashed, the other is for me, which she is not allowed to touch.

You have a beautiful loving cat. Thanks for sharing.
Multiple theories exist that explain why cats knead. Kneading may have an origin going back to cats’ wild ancestors who had to tread down grass or foliage to make a temporary nest in which to rest. Alternatively, the behavior may be a remnant of a newborn’s kneading of the mother’s teat to stimulate milk secretion. Since most of the preferred “domestic traits” are neotenous or juvenile traits that persist in the adult, kneading may be a relic juvenile behavior that is not lost in modern adult domestic cats.
Kneading is often a precursor to sleeping.
Many cats purr while kneading. They also purr mostly when newborn, when feeding, or when trying to feed on their mother’s teat. The common association between the two behaviors may corroborate the evidence in favor of the origin of kneading as a remnant instinct. Some experts consider kneading to “stimulate” the cat and make it feel good, in the same manner as a human stretching.

My “found” stray tortie, Patch, occasionally puts her front paws on the keyboard of my laptop if I’m using it instead of paying her attention. She also will rear up while you stroke her head, as if she’s trying to get her head closer to her hand. Haven’t ever noticed her kneading, but in general she’s a very affectionate kitty.
Our shelter adoptee, Apple (orange tabby), who as far as we know was pretty much always a house cat, has the rather annoying habit of swatting at your hand when she’s tired of being petted. And sometimes she’ll try to nip at you. But when she wants affection, she’ll smother you with head bonks when you pick her up.
The two kittens, Janis (lynx-point) and Monkey (dilute torbie) (both are Patch’s kids; we’ve since had her spayed), haven’t developed any idiosyncrasies aside from normal kitten playfulness.

Thanks for the reassurances that Beaux is not exhibiting latent OCD behaviors. I don't think I could get him to stop even if I DID want to. He's the kind of kitteh that will hop back up from wherever he was put down. On the table when I bring my breakfast cereal over to eat? He'll sniff it first to make sure it's not something he feels would be better for him instead of me, or else he is testing it to make sure the other kitteh isn't trying to poison me. He will relent for a few minutes to allow me to eat, then he will hop back onto the table to resume the position. Right now, as I am typing this, he is doing his kneading “thing” on me which can make it hard to see the keys. I have to reach over him in order to type!
It's good to know I am not alone in “all things feline” and it only shows what I have always believed...cats have individual personalities and no one cat - out of the billions that have ever lived - is the same as another. Kinda like people. ;o) All the more reason to love them and be grateful for every life that God brings into ours. Thanks for the comments!

Our cats all would knead to one degree or another but the *other* need...was comical ....having addiction to pasta...another little gal to cantaloupe.

Funny!!! They will do that with string, dental floss, etc. as they cannot spit it out once they start swallowing something about the barbs on their tongues. Beaux did that with an eighteen-inch piece of dental floss hubby inadvertently dropped. This can actually kill them because it is not digested and can bind their intestines and cause a horribly painful death. When he told me that's what Beaux did, I rushed him to a 24-hour emergency vet. They gave me a super laxative to give him and, though they said he should stay overnight, I took him home. The next day, thank God, there was the dental floss wrapped up within a t—d and sticking out the end about an inch. It had not unwrapped and did not get stuck within him. I was really worried. So, just a lesson...don't leave out such things as string or dental floss because they WILL eat it. Pasta's ok!

It's fun getting a new kitten and watching that personality, with its quirks, develop.
Your Beaux is one beautiful fella. You can tell he's aware of his gorgeousness and is deigning to pose for the camera, LOL.

The first Siamese (now sorely missed) loved rubber. He ate all the rubber tips off all the door stops. luckily they would pass through his system. He also liked yarn and string, which occasionally would require “help” with removal, to my wife’s disgust.....

Hope you don't mind if I post a pick of my baby!
This is Minette, and she is a rescue kitteh.
Like your beautful Beaux, she kneads me too!
She also will sit in my lap,
Put her head in the crook of my arm,
And just sit like that with her head bobbing up and down while I type.
If you are ill, she goes into "Nurse Kitteh" mode,
and will fuss and cuddle with you.
She "talks" too.
All the time!

Thank you! I do. Beaux is by far the most affectionate cat I have ever known.

What no one knew but me was that the one person he invariably chose was a confirmed cat-hater!Actually, this is a very common occurrence. I read somewhere that since most "cat haters" tend to look away from cats (as opposed to just ignoring them), their reaction is read by the cat as being submissive to the cat, which naturally attracts them.

My stepmother had a Siamese who LOVED Christmas tinsel, and would eat little bits of it off the tree! Nobody noticed until the cat began to look like a party favor! One of my favorite Christmas memories is seeing her chasing the cat around the apartment, trying to remove the tinsel from the cat's rear end!

Thanks for the info. It would be funny with any explanation or none at all! Cats are NOT subtle!

I have a cat that makes smacking noises with his mouth,LOL.
Actually it’s more like the sound of a cat licking its chops after eating. And he does it right in my ear.

Our female Ragdoll smacks REAL loud when she eats. You can hear her in the next room. It's hilarious. Isn't it amazing how each one has their own “specialness”?
