Yep. Google books has a lot of old free books that are in PDF and EPUB format that can be downloaded to a cheap reader (I don't/won't use Kindle). I have hundreds of them in mine.

Forgot to mention that I recently downloaded "Where there is no Doctor" from the WHO and it works great on my e-reader.

Thanks for the info Kart...
It isn't free, but in the same vein: every serious prepper should have one of these too: Henleys Book of Formulas
You can sometimes find them in the discount bin at a Brick & Mortar bookstore for a buck or two.

Available through Nook, also.

Too bad most people can’t understand these books because of the piss-poor public education system. They actually used words more than 6 letters long. This must shock some people.

Oh,thank you. I learned the hard way about eating antelope just because it hadn't bloated yet but these old books are a gold mine.
Some of them were written pre-refrigeration and contain excellent hints you can't find anywhere else.

I have a question that the answer might help other FReepers with these downloads.
I downloaded the free kindle to my PC and have Prime. How do you download “free” books when the only option listed is to buy?
Really would be helpful to know this!
