Rick is steadfast. When trouble hit his family , he abided; when trouble hit Newt’s family, he???
This shows strength of character versus weakness. It is less the “sin” of his adulterous relationships that worry me than how he treated those who were of no further use to him. It’s all about Newt.
For weeks now, Santorum supporters have endured all manner of gratuitous insult from “conservatives” on this website; “naive”, “immature”, “brain-dead”, just to name a few. Nobody said Newt is a bad or evil man. Anyone who says he is a strong or steadfast man is making an assertion without any data to show it true.
Oh, and “supreme moral arrogance”? Mild.

It makes little common sense to lump failed marriages in with family crises involving children’s welfare.

Yes they are families, but failed marriages are legion.

While some situations even destroy the children’s welfare, too, and all involved become estranged and bitter, such is less often the case than is the common nature of failed marriage.

Newt is very close to his daughters and his two grandchildren. These bonds speak well.

Not to someone who is so in the tank for another, he would conflate failed marriages with sick and dying babies in another family, however.

Also as is known, Newt married his teacher after an extended fling in high school. That was not a typical marriage.

His second wife is another bad story and to avoid airing in public, I say do some research.

Failed marriage does not equal Santorum family trouble with health and life of its children.

Unless your goal is to bend the attitude toward Newt curve further downward, as if that hadn’t already been done enough.

As a refresher to those who didn’t get it before....

“Santorum spent most of his time grandstanding for his Senate race,.... speaking vague cost-cutting rhetoric designed to get him on C-SPAN...... He would be very polite in person, but when he got in front of the microphone he was a monster..... You had to wonder how much of an act it was.”

“Santorum had no depth on tax issues,”... “but he could run a long ways with nothing. He was assigned to make life crazy for Democrats...... They always knew he would be a little pit bull to take us on on issues simply for the sake of slowing things down,...... but he couldn’t keep his facts straight....... It got to the point that other Republicans would have their staff draft the issues for him so that at least he’d have some facts to work with.”

The Republican overclass in Pennsylvania—the core group of which is moderate—tried to discourage Santorum from running for the Senate. ...

.....“We felt it was presumptuous on his part; he didn’t exactly have much of a record in the House,” ..... “But it was more than that....... Of course, there was his personality, he had rubbed a lot of us the wrong way,..... and in Congress he’s been a bull in a china shop.

In the end, the problem was that nobody knows what Rick stands for..... He kept trying to tell us what a moderate he was.

In the tank? My candidates either never run or were chased out by ennui, scandal or the endless series of useless debates. See, this is what makes a hard edge for Santorum supporters. We won’t be pushed, and I’d hope we can’t be bought. Newt is not a factor anymore. I consider him a fine conservative leader, but not for the presidency in this group. I have seen no positive uplift of Newt that didn’t have to belittle opposition to him, other than the admins who have let their positions be known and then sit back and let others speak.
Newt’s Southern strategy has failed, and he has no other pathway to the nomination. I don’t seek to tear Newt down, but I respond in kind to what is thrown at us. Now we may have to deal with unpleasant facts on the ground. New York money will buy the nomination for Willard.
