I'll have to post just an excerpt. It is not convenient to do a lot of reformatting, since I have already formatted this article the way I chose, thanks.

I'd propose these questions: would Newt Gingrich, political leader that he is, have said such a thing?
Or, John Adams?
Thomas Jefferson?
John Kennedy?
Al Smith, for that matter?

I've read The Cost of Discipleship, and in it Dietrich Bonhoeffer had sharp criticism for his Hitler era Lutheran Church. I don't however recall him saying that Luteranism is "gone from the world of Christianity."

I wonder what these mainline Protestants would think:
C.S. Lewis
Francis Schaeffer
Dr. D. James Kennedy

Duh...me. That’s what happens when you rush and have a million windows open (thousands of emails, a stream, TV documentary and phone call, yikes).

I hope you produce the recent video clip, and not the Ave Maria speech from 2008 that THINK PROGRESS, HUFF PO and the LEFT trotted out, (again) in FEBRUARY. I’m sure some remember it from when they first dragged out the Satan comment.

Context: The speech is from a 2008 event at Ave Maria College in Florida, where Santorum notes that America was founded upon a Christian philosophy but “the Judeo-Christian ethic was a Protestant one.” “We look at the shape of mainline protestantism in this country and it is in shambles, it is gone from the world of Christianity as I see it,” he concludes.

You read Bonhoeffer and couldn’t post the whole speech or the relevant portion uncut? Good try, i’ll help.

**Clip with link to full video as well:

BTW, this was during the time he questioned Obama’s Christianity , echoed by Franklin Graham.

P.S. If I were being dragged to a concentration camp or living where I saw my neighbors being dragged to one, i’m sure i’d question not just Lutheran clergy, but all of them.

I’m sure you know the Christian history of colleges in this country and the missions they were founded on.

Here’s a snippet until I get back:

Were are they now? Where is our country re: morals?
After seeing the 60’s first hand and what has happened to the family, government and education... it’s a fact, including my church.

I remember when all churches were against divorce, abortion, gay marriage, etc.; Now you have some not only allowing or being quiet about it, but sponsoring and marching with activists (many with socialists). Even that wasn’t enough, you have some telling you Jesus himself was a socialist and Sodom had nothing to do with sexual immorality, just hospitality and the feeding of the 2000 and 5000 is the sharing and caring socialist gospel.

I don’t know if you’re a tea party libertarian or who you back, I don’t need to know.
You’ve been around long enough to know what you posted does not fly.

BTW, thanks for continuing the meme for them.

I think Lewis, Schaeffer and Kennedy have lamented the state of the church in their times, with better statements.

P.S. I noticed on your blog you have a Vatican problem as well as an Opus Dei problem. Are you now a Catholic or ever have been?

I guess the Opus Dei you know, is better than the Opus Dei you don’t know. Look it up.

Peace out.

If you have faith, have faith in God, not in man.

No Gingrich says things like this...

“I am more a critical progressive seeking reform rather than a new leftist advocating radical change.”

Oh sorry...no he actually wrote that in a letter!!!

He speaketh the truth. I have heard this from many Christians. It’s true in Judaism. I went to a bar mitzvah in a liberal reform temple not long ago and the prayer book was so freaking touchy feely. Where were the traditional prayers? They were watered down to where you would think Judaism was only about happy happy joy joy.
