The Lincoln-Douglas debates were for a Senate seat; in the Senate you need debating skills.
Why do we need them in the Presidential race?
We’re not electing a “Debater-in-Chief”.
Last time out, all we got was a master...
Maybe an instinctive closeness to him? I’ve noticed this as well, but am not certain as to the cause.
Good question, I can only say that there is only one Newt in politics, actually Romney is ofter referred to as Mitt and there is only one Mitt in politics. Both are unusual names so the short form can be used with little or no risk of it not being recognized. I sometimes refer to Gingrich as “The Grinch” and that is when I am feeling positive about him! Cain, when he was soaring, was often called Herman or “The Hermanator”. It seems that those who refer to Palin as simply “Sarah” are those who truly admire, respect and believe in her. Obama is not always Obama, he is called every name in the book as he should be, he has proven himself worthy of expletive.
Mine stood on edge. I know what you’re thinking.
I watched Newt’s victory speech and heard nothing in it that was bad. I guess the fact he did not use or need a teleprompter was a problem for some people.
So Newt is like a George W Bush, except once he realizes that goofs such as calling supporters who want the border secured “vigilantes” are seriously counter-productive, diplomatically backs off the mistake because he recognizes it as exactly that...
Unlike Bush who stubbornly doubled down. And drove away his own base?
Did I get that about right?
:D
(not really understanding how this is a bad thing)
Obama is The terrorist in our Whitehouse.
I don’t think Newt will be too concerned about your concern. Isn’t there a bridge waiting for you somewhere?
To show the stark contrast of the choice America is facing. If you cannot articulate your vision, you cannot win votes.
The only “bad” part was some uncouth loudmouthed yahoo who kept yelling at Newt during his speech.
Someone really needed to tell that guy to pipe down, and quick.
I was thinking that too...but most of the sheeple have never heard it.....nor has it made the news...its a valid challenge that Newt will use in the future....once it gets out....The MSM will have to spin like a top to stop it!!
I too would genuinely like to know what the OP thought was wrong with the speech. Newt seemed a bit tired - but who wouldn’t be after wrapping it up so early but having to sit through the longest “loser” speech in history from Ron Paul?
He did what is successful for him: which is actually saying good things about the other GOP opponents but slamming liberals in the media, in Obama’s administration, in general.
I won’t call him a troll or a bot, I want to hear some specifics.
Post 1 still has the link, to the blog.
It’s a big problem with blogpimps - they post and run and fail to engage in discussion.
“This gets the dumbest post of the day award. Not criticizing the poster just the message. “
Well gee, thanks. Didn’t know I was in the running. I wasn’t trying to be an intellectual giant. Just musing about something. If I had known there was a dumb contest I’d have run through a few peers first.
If you go to the blog, the reason given under "Could Blow It" is that Newt "rambled on" about Saul Alinsky, a name unknown to the vast majority of Americans.
Well, IMO, that was the very best part of the speech; it's high time the vast majority of Americans get acquainted with Saul Alinsky. After all, one of his disciples is in the White House.
Stump speeches articulate vision. Debates allow Steffi to attack our candidates in the form of a question. Why then do we need them in the general?
I have not picked a candidate; mine is not running. You don’t need six other people on stage to know Sarah Palin’s position on the issues of the day.
Examples please????????
