Ever since SARS and the original M.A. stuff on FR I’ve been sort of obssessively following emerging diseases. I’ve been a member on several “flu sites” and read daily, have for years. I’ve been studiously reading about this research thing and the danger, IMO, is not from any researchers, but from incompetent/compromised health agencies that are influenced or wholely controlled by the WHO. Anything connected to the UN is totally rotten and Chan, the director of the WHO, is a PRC tool. It’s a very long story...

But the findings of the researchers allows people who deal with H5N1 in the field the clues of what to look for, to tell if H5N1 is mutating enough to go H2H easily, and if it is maintaining a high CFR. The MSM/press releases etc put out by the WHO, their hired risk communicators and other untrustworthy players in the shadows (one is a Chinese hired personage who studied Neuro Linguistic Programming) are dominating the “evil/stupid scientists” message. The danger IMO is not the scientists; it is the WHO and China.

I could write a lot more if anyone wants, or better yet, send links to the best flu site I know of (posted up this thread somwhere too.)

HIV outbreak on Alaska Army base rattles public health officials

Eric Christopher Adams | Feb 21, 2012

State epidemiologists issued public health bulletins Tuesday to alert everyone in Alaska to outbreaks of syphilis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the disease that if untreated can cause AIDS.

Since January 2011, newly-reported cases of HIV in Fairbanks have more than doubled, according to Susan Jones, Alaska’s HIV/STD program manager. In any given year, between two and four new cases are reported in Fairbanks. Last year, they spiked, with at least nine individuals newly diagnosed as HIV positive.

Statewide, between 20 and 40 newly-acquired and newly-reported cases of HIV/AIDS are reported to public health officials most years, Jones said. But in 2010, the last year official numbers were reported, there were 77 cases.

Watch Egypt......Wait for it to burn out. Be patient and then patient some more. Let the darkness pass over the earth. It will be quicker than any Hollywood disaster movie could ever portray. But it will pass.

Chills run up and down my spine!!! I am following along James, just a 'regular' person with no expertise to add to the discussion. Thanks for pinging.

Oh I get the thought process...a highly mutagenic virus already spread in diverse populations, consisting of a certain generation of said given virii which will, upon reaching a certain reproductive cycle within the hosts’ cells, hit that same mutagenic change point seemingly randomally yet mutually at the same time, whereupon they become dangerously pathological in many folks all at once, in many locations all at once.

Seems the way evolution works too - maybe the reason why there's millions of 'missing links' ... whatever the next 'stage' is - happens quickly and universally...

But Mother Abigail does think it can go airborne- and unless your friend has the sort of expertise she appears to possess I’d take her word for it.

Regarding HIV going airborne, I am an ignoramous and can only learn from others. Actually friend asked another friend who is some kind of doctor who either teaches or is in some kind of related field, can’t remember at the moment as I am very tired... I was just passing on another apparently educated assessment. MA could very well be correct. I fully expect some kind of bad pandemic sooner or later.

I have been following the MD situation on the PFI forum, looks very bad - two siblings showed up at hospital coughing blood. Sounds like cytokine storm basically turning the lungs to raw meat. One report said the funeral director got sick too. CDC is getting or did get samples and will see what kind of flu A it is. Whether we’ll find out is another matter.

This one caught my attention and also caused concern with my Wife (MD). Need to get confirmation on the funeral director infection and wether he had contact with the siblings or just the body.

The other interesting issue is the police investigation. There is speculation this is related to potential terrorism and the large wild bird population in the MD peninsula and north with the large chicken population in Delmarva. This one is worth watching.

If you have any other links please post them.

Thanks

Cluster of deaths following flu-like symptoms in Calvert County

The Calvert County Health Department [CCHD] is investigating a cluster of deaths following respiratory illnesses in the Lusby area. The county health department told News4 that 4 family members who live near the Calvert Cliffs nuclear facility fell ill with an unidentified respiratory illness at the end of February, [2012] and 3 died this month.

An 81 year old woman was the 1st to become sick, in late February. The woman’s 3 adult children, 2 daughters and a son, traveled to her home to care for her. Subsequently, they became sick with similar health problems.

According to the health department, the 81 year old who died presented symptoms of respiratory illness on 23 Feb 2012 and died on 1 Mar 2012. The children showed symptoms around 28 Feb 2012, and were hospitalized in critical condition. Several days later, the 58 year old son and the 56 year old daughter died, and the 3rd daughter remains hospitalized.

Health officer David Rogers, in a statement released on 6 Mar 2012, said the county health department does not believe the illness represents a widespread health threat. “The cases appear to be confined to a single family,” Rogers wrote, “and there are currently no other affected individuals at this time. CCHD is not recommending any protective actions for the general public.”

In an earlier statement, the county erroneously reported 4 deaths.

The department recommends people with flu-like symptoms like fever, cough, or sore throat contact their doctors to see if they would benefit from antiviral or other medications. Currently, county health officials are not advising any specific preventive measures.

CCHD sent a message to area residents to say it was working together with health care providers to monitor the situation and determine a cause for the respiratory illness. A spokesperson told News4 the victims’ proximity to the power plant was not believed to be a factor.

On Monday afternoon, a crew of health workers dressed in hazardous material suits entered the woman’s house and collected more samples for testing.

Update on Calvert County Respiratory Illness Investigation
Preliminary Testing Indicates Influenza

Dori Henry
Director of Communications
Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

BALTIMORE (March 6, 2012) – The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) is working in conjunction with the Calvert County Health Department to investigate a cluster of respiratory illnesses in Calvert County. As the Calvert County Health Department has reported, DHMH is aware of four cases in adults from a single family with severe respiratory illness; three have died. At this time, no other similar clusters have been reported from Calvert County or elsewhere in the state.

The cause for these illnesses is under investigation and testing is being conducted by the DHMH Laboratories Administration. Preliminary testing at the DHMH Laboratories Administration indicates that two of the fatal cases had influenza, and these cases may have been complicated by bacterial co-infections. Bacterial co-infection is a known complication of influenza infection. Additional testing is being conducted for all cases.

DHMH recommends all individuals continue to take the following precautions during influenza season: hand washing, staying home if sick, and staying up to date with influenza vaccinations. DHMH also reminds Maryland residents with influenza-like illness (fever and sore throat or cough) to consult their healthcare providers for evaluation. DHMH is not recommending any additional measures at this time. The Department will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
There have been no new cases reported as of 11:30 p.m. {EST}

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. - A deadly outbreak of flu appears to have killed three people in Calvert County, all from the same family. The Calvert County Health Department began investigating the cluster of deaths on Monday trying to find the source of this outbreak.

The first victim was an 81-year-old Lusby woman who got sick less than two weeks ago and died. Her son and two daughters, all in their 50s, were taking care of her when they got sick too. Within days, those two were dead.

"I just couldn't believe all of this was going on in my aunt's house,” said Carl Lockes, who identified the elderly victim as his aunt Ruth Blake. “I don't know if it's something in the house or coming in contact with a germ or something."

Doctors at Washington Hospital Center now say the son and daughter who died were infected with influenza A. Lab tests are also being done on the mother to see if she was infected by the same flu virus.

On Tuesday morning, a team of environmental health specialists scoured the victim's home on Rousby Hall Road. Calvert County health officials believe the outbreak was isolated to the house and those in close contact with the elderly victim who lived there.

Lockes said at first it seemed like a cold, and then suddenly they died. He identified the other victims as Lowell and Vanessa Blake, with their sister Elaine as the sole survivor. Relatives say she is improving and that her breathing tube was removed on Tuesday.

"We got a large family. Everybody's concerned about what's going on. It's been very tragic for the family," said Lockes.

The health department has warned doctors in the county to be aware of anyone reporting respiratory illnesses. The school system also notified parents to be aware and to call their doctors if they notice similar flu like symptoms.

County health officials called the flu strain very virulent, with an incubation period of just two to three days, but don't believe the outbreak poses a greater public health risk. No other similar cases have been reported.

"I know there was concern this may be an infection spreading in the community, house-to-house, children involved. That is not the case. We have no evidence at this point any individual other than these four people have been affected," said Dr. David Rogers, a Calvert County Health Officer.

The health department is keeping an eye on relatives and hospital staff or others who came in close contact with the victims, but say no one else has gotten sick so far.

Still, the health department says a few more days will need to pass before they can declare that this outbreak has passed.

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. - A deadly outbreak of flu appears to have killed three people in Calvert County,

I saw this story posted several places this morning. Pretty worrisome, if you ask me. I hope it turns out to be something more than just the flu and a possible staph infection. I also simply don't believe when they say it was likely confined to the house. That is certainly not true. And if that other sibling dies, that's 100% of the known infected. Sorry to sound like chicken little.

Although few details are available about the illness, infectious disease specialists speculate there could be a number of causes.

“The first thing that comes to mind is influenza. It can be devastating and make people very ill,” said Dr. William Schaffner, chair of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. “But when they’re a cluster like this, we have to wonder if it may be a mutant strain of flu virus. There’s been some concern about a swine flu variant.”

Pneumonia is also a possibility, as is Legionnaires’ disease.

“Legionnaires’ could cluster, and that would implicate perhaps something about this home environment,” Schaffner added. “Bacteria like moisture, so there would need to be an investigation of the heating and air conditioning systems.”

There could also be other environmental causes, such as a toxin, or even carbon monoxide poisoning.

Dr. Gio Baracco, associate professor of infectious diseases at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, speculated, based on the very limited amount of information available, that the cause is non-infectious and could be something envirnonmental.

“The reason is that for most infections, transmission rate is not 100 percent and the fatality rate is not 100 percent,” he said. If the woman’s hospitalized daughter dies, the case fatality rate will be 100 percent, he explained.

“The fact that they’re in the same household and they’re not seeing the same thing going on in the community is unusual,” he added.

I found this info this morning.

--------------------------------

"She said it was unlikely the infection was acquired in the hospitals because the siblings arrived coughing blood. “It’s likely they came to the hospital with the infection, which is what caused the cough and fever,” Orlowski said.

It's only unusual if it isn't the very first effects of a mutated virus, which it could be. Will watch to see how this unfolds.
