I'll make my stand here where I live... and... most of my neighbors have said already that they'll do the same.

If it becomes hell here... believe me when I say this... you do NOT want to be “out there”.

I would suggest one that has already collapsed. Maybe Iceland?

I’d go to Israel, buy a nice little place with combination master bedroom/bomb shelter.
The shekel is in great shape.

I followed your train of thought when I read this. The question is going to be not what country but what county...although Canada will be stable I am sure. Rural or exurban areas where people are self reliant and maybe not all that outwardly prosperous to begin with will probably be safe places. Aroostook, Lincoln, Washington counties in Maine all come to mind. Even Northern Connecticut and Western Massachusetts would fit the bill, as would upstate NY. I am sure no doubt we can put a long list together on this forum. I feel certain however in saying that no industrious person will ever starve in Aroostook County. The Amish who recently moved to Smyrna are really prospering as a matter of fact.

I’m staying right where I am in Michigan while everyone else rushes for the south.

Costa Rica has been trying to grow their US expat numbers. My wife and I looked at real estate there, an island, but then out of the blue we saw a documentary about how the crocodile population there is on the way back, laying their eggs on the island beaches.
Aaaaanyway, she thinks I wanted to feed her to the crocs. Nonsense. I would only go with American made alligators if that were my intent.

And among our good neighbors to the north in Oklahoma is another good choice.
Remember, Sam Houston went there during the Civil War. He opposed that war and was not very popular in Texas at the time.

I’ve already endured the economic collapse of Michigan so I may as well stay right where I am.
