Not condoning anyone coming in the country sounds harsh. What do you have as a penalty for them crossing illegals? A stern talking down to?

I say let them fry and they will learn the same way a cat learns to never jump on a hot stove twice.

B.S.

I live in cattle country....and I'd bet > 97% of the hired cowboys are Americans.

I'd guess your "friends and family" don't want to pay them what they'd have to pay an American. And even then...that ain't much.

And WHY in the HELL...would one of your "friends and family" have a hired ILLEGAL for 20 years...AND NOT HELP HIM BECOME LEGAL!!!!

I call B.S.

Trust me. She and I have had that very conversation oft times. I have offered to help. And where you live and where she lives are completely different. When the young men are in high school, they work the ranches in the summer. Some come home for summer from college and work. They graduate and they move to the cities. She does hire the young men who will work the ranch. They are few and far between. And that is true all over the Texas Hill Country. I am not condoning this. This is a fact. I am not saying it is right. I am saying it exists.

Trust me. If I had the answer I would share it with you. It was not the fence and I use that term loosely that was partially built here and there and we spent millions on it. After all the sheriff’s depts and the border patrol told the feds...IT ...WILL....NOT...WORK. It is built. Millions and millions of dollars..ours...are gone. There are huge gaps in the “fence”...Ranchers tear the partially built fences down. I want to know why they dont come here legally. Maybe if we could figure that out....we could more effectively convince them to come here legally. That should have been done immediately after 9/11. I dont want anyone coming over that border illegally Ever. But I am a gringa in San Antonio with no answers.

I live in an extremely remote area on the border- more remote than any ranch in Texas. There are some very large and many small ranches here- it is cattle country. The ranches here do not hire illegals and they find plenty of cowboys to get the work done. Any rancher that cannot find cowboys needs to look in the mirror and figure out why. I know why, my family and friends have cowboy’d for years. Those that hire illegals do not want to pay a living wage or have a livable house or treat people like slaves. No one is working on a ranch for the money but you at least have to have enough to live on and raise a family.

Ranches here hire almost all citizen cowboys and a few with work permits, I don’t know of one that hires illegals. Anyone that hires illegals is stealing from the taxpayer- illegals cannot live on paltry wages either so they supplement their income by the taxpayers making up the difference. There is always a reason to break the law- whether it is robbing banks or hiring illegals.

What about the illegals that rape, murder or cause other crimes, violent or not? Slap on the wrist, deportation or death penalty?

Tammy...again, I am not condoning this. I am simply saying this exists. And no, there are not enough American cowboys in that area to take care of those ranches. If there were, they would hire them too. They are not there. There are many young men up there who are not working at all and have absolutely no interest in working the ranches. If you own a ranch you know it is hard work. They are not interested in doing it.

No deportation because Mexico does not have the death penalty. First degree murderers should get the death penalty. Rapists should face the same penalty anyone else faces. Same with any violent crime.

When you are talking about ranches and cowboys I can promise you that I know far more than you about that. There is a community of skilled cowboys that work on ranches all over this country. There is no where they won’t go or any area too remote if they are paid a living wage and treated with respect. Ranchers that really want to hire citizen cowboys have no issue doing so and in fact there are waiting lists to go to work at many ranches all over this country. My entire family has and does make a living on ranches and I know how it works. I have lived over 100 miles from a town with even a small grocery, I have lived without electricity and been very happy because we were treated well and paid a fair wage.

Some ranchers are black listed by the cowboy community for different reasons- some do not treat their help with respect, some will not keep their houses safe to live in, some choose to hire illegals. A rancher that has hired illegals for 20 years will have a hard time hiring cowboys because they are blacklisted, why would a citizen cowboy try to get a job with them- they have proven they prefer illegals. If they choose to change the way they do things they can certainly hire citizen cowboys and have no issues.

What gripes me about this whole situation is someone like you that has no idea what he is talking about saying there are no citizen cowboys that will work on those ranches because they are remote or whatever. You have no clue, working cowboys prefer to be remote- we always did. Cowboys do not have to be “local”- local to what? There are cowboys that grew up in Nevada working in AZ- there are cowboys from Texas working here, some that grew up here working all over. Real cowboys are not scared of work that is for sure. It is not a life that is for everyone but those of us that do it love what we do and wouldn’t trade it for anything. If those ranchers want cowboys they can find them- they need to get connected to the cowboy community and be willing to do their part.

Ranchers that hire illegals are STEALING from taxpayers and they are lying about why they do it so they sound better. Ranchers that hire illegals to save money are also UNFAIRLY competing with ranchers that hire citizens. I am so tired of hearing the citizens won’t work that hard or live remote- lies, lies and more lies. My people do “jobs Americans won’t do” every day so I am really sick of that B.S. mantra.

You support open borders and illegal immigration and do not have the guts to admit it. It is easy to see from your posts. You think illegals are needed to keep this country going and that is simply not true. You are either being shady about how you really feel or you are totally clueless.

Newflash- there are professional cowboys that choose to live their entire life on a ranch, working hard, living remote- the whole package. That is who those ranchers need to hire, that is who the ranchers here hire. It is not unskilled labor- if the ranchers you are talking about think it is then there is the reason they cannot find citizen cowboys. When you need a plumber do you go hire a high school kid and cry when he graduates or do you hire a plumber? Some high school kids grow up on ranches and are great cowboys and do choose other professions- but really you are drinking the Kool-aid of those that CHOOSE to hire illegals and lie to justify it.

We sincerely have a failure to communicate. I thought I had communicated to you that I was born and raised HERE. I know cowboys. Trust me. There are NONE looking for jobs in the hill country at any given time. The ones available have been long time employees at the ranches where they are. STOP with the insults. I am having a conversation with you. You are being rude to me. I am not drinking kool aid. We live in different areas. We have entirely different sentiments in San Antonio and the Hill Country than you do obviously. You are talking about the sentiments of a lifetime for these ranchers. Why you feel the need to be rude is beyond me. I have not hired illegals. I was simply conveying a way of life in the Hill Country. These are good people. They have lived like this always. I am not the bad guy in this. There are no bad guys.

I am not “shady” nor am I “clueless”.....also, I am not RUDE. My Mother raised me better than that. I can communicate without being rude. It is easy if you have the strength of your argument. Most times when people are rude it is because their argument is weak.

You obviously know more about the availability of cowboys on the border. You know nothing, zilch, nada, about the Texas Hill Country.

I know about real cowboys here, there, and everywhere. Any rancher in this country that says they cannot hire or keep a real American cowboy- there is a reason and it is them. It has nothing to do with location or hard work. I told you if you really know ranch people that want to hire real cowboys- let me know, if they are willing to be good employers I can find them cowboys.
