If Reagan had known that when he agreed to amnesty in return for border and workplace enforcement that there would be no border and workplace enforcement, he would not have agreed to it in the first place.

Fool us once, shame on us. Fool us twice, is national suicide.

I wish you saw my points.

I’m saying we don’t have any way of knowing what he knew of the land’s name, it was just a hunting lease one would visit once or twice a year for a couple of days hunting, so you are still assuming he knew the name before hand. You say he’s dumb. But that only supposes that your imaginings are true.

How public was the name displayed, even after they got there? Don’t know. In other words, how prominent, how eye catching? I don’t know.

Once they got there and saw it, however easily seen it was or not easily seen, they covered it. BTW, his dad was involved in the leasing and in the covering up so I guess his dad was dumb, too.

Just a dumb tenant cotton farmer. Thanks a lot for your elistism.

Now you’ve gone from admitting he wasn’t a professional politician at the time, to saying he should have made an issue of the name of a land where he would hunt a couple times a year, looking forward to becoming a professional politician.

Are you aware of the silliness of all of this? He has been elected to various offices in Texas, not in the rest of the United States, and until he runs for President this has never come up???

Does that tell you anything about why he might not have acted at the time as if somebody someday might bring this up when he ran for President, which he didn’t even know back then he would ever do?

None of this means he is dumb.

The whole thing is completely ridiculous.

The only thing we learn of the Perrys, dad and son, from this is that they didn’t like what the rock had on it and covered it up.

To say it shows anything else about them is to imagine all sorts of facts not in evidence or things we can’t possibly know one way or the other.

Kick the imagination to the curb.

But he didn’t. Big deal. He said it today.

I didn’t say Cain was not responsible for what he said.

If Perry had no connection to that ranch, or camp, there would be no issue.

Would there?

I found nothing Mr. Cain said when responding to Chris Wallace’s tough questions yesterday at all out of line. Herman Cain is a gentleman. A Christian gentleman.

If Reagan were alive today and in Perry’s shoes, you don’t know what Reagan would do.

He knocked a lot of people’s socks off with amnesty at the time.

Perry says to seal the border before even discussing what on earth to do now thanks to the fact that Feds have not stopped illegal immigration there are millions upon mulitiple millions of people here that shouldn’t be.

Remember, his amnesty helped encourage people to come all the more. Not that he intended that, but of course it encouraged more to come because they might aspire to receiving the same total amnesty declaration by a future President and Congress.

If he were in Perry’s shoes after all of this has gone on so long in this way and with these repercussions, you don’t know what he would do. I was surprised when he granted the total amnesty.

Perry is saying he will not do what Reagan did. He seems to focus on decent people’s desire for work while attacking the indecent criminals and drug gangs, etc. I don’t know what he might envision as penalty, short of deportation, for the crime of illicit entry. He says he will not entertain any of those ideas until the border is secure, and he has pledged to do whatever it takes to secure it.

A secure border would be nice. Oh wow, would that be nice.

Next step, then next, then next...

Plenty of debate on those.

There is no “issue”, other than Cain’s poor response.

I’m glad for you that he’s a Christian gentlemen but that has nothing to do with the fact that some Freepers are trying to use this to paint Perry as a racist just because they don’t like him.

I’m sorry that Cain allowed himself to get sucked up into this ridiculousness. I hope he has learned from it.

Wasn’t very Christian or gentlemanly to say that Perry allowed the rock to show too long and only eventually covered it, which showed Perry to be racially insensitive, because it wasn’t true.

What he assumed to be true of Perry, which was based on a Washington Post smear story, and a baiting question by Chris Wallace, wasn’t true. It was false.

If you haven’t read the actual words he spoke yesterday, read them. They have been posted.

Today he says that he didn’t say those things about Perry, but about the rock. Not true. He said them about Perry too; there are transcripts and millions of people heard him say them.

But you won’t seek the truth. You evidence that you are too invested to face what he actually said, and now today, denies saying.

"Perry says to seal the border before even discussing what on earth to do"

Um, no. Perry is saying we should legalize the illegals working here now by calling them guest workers.

Rick Perry: "That’s why I support a guest worker program that takes undocumented workers off the black market and legitimizes their economic contributions without providing them citizenship status."

And we know what Reagan agreed to - amnesty in exchange for border and workplace enforcement. If he believed there would be no border and workplace enforcement, obviously Reagan would not have made the deal he did because he insisted on that as conditions.

Well, you and I are just going to have to agree to disagree.

I do not believe it is an “attack” to say that someone’s actions were insensitive. It is a very mild criticism.

It is amazing that you believe no one should disagree with the actions of your candidate. You all sure don’t have any problem disagreeing with my candidate. Perry supporters have been relentlessly attacking Cain, with lies, misrepresentation and name calling for the past month or two, long before the name fiasco.

I really wonder if you all have stopped to think about the effect of your reactions the last two days will be on Perry if ever runs against Obama. I’m sure it’s not true of all Perry supporters, but there is a handful of you that are making Perry look really bad.

It does leave one to wonder how a self acclaimed Christian would continue to use a facility with a racist word at the entry. It was a sin to allow it to remain after they first saw it. Or to continue hunting there. Doing so inferred the Perrys were in accord with the word. No doubt there were other areas where Perry and his father could have hunted.

And of course, it is an offensive word. After all, Mr. Cain didn’t bring up the subject. He responded reasonably to a question which turned out to be as a loaded one.

“It was a sin to allow it to remain after they first saw it.”

Perry got gas in Dead Negro Draw, Texas. Should he say a couple of Our Fathers to counter it?

Jeez Louise.

I repeat, Mr. Cain did not bring up the subject. He responded reasonably and honestly to a question which turned out to be a loaded one. Mr. Cain is better qualified for the office than any other caqndidate or wannabe candidate.
