Very cool. It’s pretty unusual to catch the return stroke rising from the ground.

yeah got a rare photo there.

I recall seeing a similar one on the weatherchannel calendar some years ago.

It shows the bolt going upward.

Google "lightning leader" to see other pictures similar to yours.

You came very close to having a bolt of lightning hit just feet away from you. Very cool (and dangerous!).
