I believe the legitimate concern is that it's tail is exceedingly long and, if you buy into the “electric theory” of the universe, it may excite the sun to increase CMEs. This in turn, may affect the weather. There are about a dozen other comets and asteroids in earth's vicinity at the same. This may amplify the electromagnetic interplay with the sun. It is pretty sure that it will interfere with our satellite functions.

It is not all baseless.

I like how they claim earthquakes and such are due to Elenin, yet they completely ignore that Elenin didn’t disturb or disrupt asteroid 74732(1999 RQ176) despite passing .002 AU away from it, alot closer than the it will pass by us.
IF Elenin could do all this super bad stuff as they claim, the asteroid would have been shifted from orbit.
Especially since they claim orbital and polar shifts (somehow not detected by any scientists, satellites etc..) here on Earth.
