The whole thing was set up by the leadership on both sides to play out this way.

Just like the Obamacare fiasco....it's about the money revenues into coffers of their choosing....and the paybacks for companies and industries who support the politicians. I no longer believe our Gov. in any way shape or form represents 'the people'...they fired us long ago and simply put on the theater we see now.

Yep. Notice how little the House has done to defund Obamacare—after that’s what they ran and were elected on last year.

Well they don't want to until the election draws closer....then it will become an issue for political gain. We are soooo being played by both sides and I am so close to calling it quits on caring one way or another.....this election will determine which way I go. I will not continue to waste my time, money and efforts on a dead duck in the water. The Republicans have thrown in the towel far too many times now, and in full view of the audience...as if we don't know the game they're playing.

We had hopes we could change the face of washington...it isn't going to happen fast enough to stem the tide that's so deeply rooted there. We have seen they will by-pass the Constitution as if it doesn't exist...because in their eyes it doesn't, it's just a rumple strip in their road they have to slow down to get over...one way or another.

I'm so completely disgusted with our nation now, both in Washington and the mindset of most of the people in our nation.....who the vast majority have now become foreigners in every respect. Know nothing of our History and don't' care to do anything but change our America to their ideas and cultures.

I have given thought to where I could move where I don't have to deal with un-American people. My workplace is full of liberals as is the community. Guess what...they are everywhere and this nations face has changed from being American....it's now as the UN...with all other nations flags and emblems being posted here.

If that panel did not act - or if Congress rejected their recommendations - ‘automatic’ spending cuts would be triggered that could affect Medicare and defense spending, two of the most politically sacrosanct programs.

Sorry to say, but there's no such thing as an "automatic" spending cut.

Next year's Congress is not obligated to adhere to whatever this year's Congress passes. A simple vote to undo the "automatic" spending cut, et voila!, "automatic" spending cut is no more.

Isn't it weird how, out of the literally thousands of Government programs out there, the scaremongers always throw out Medicare and Defense.

If all Government did was provide Medicare and Defense, we wouldn't be having this problem.

Or would we?

I hear ya. 2012 is do or die for the GOP as far as I’m concerned.

Here is what is being reported by the Atlantic:

Other component parts of the tentative deal include:

$2.8 trillion in deficit reduction with $1 trillion locked in through discretionary spending caps over 10 years and the remainder determined by a so-called “Super Committee.”

IOW, $100B a year in cuts or 6/10 of 1% of the deficit - WOW!

The Super Committee must report precise deficit-reduction proposals by Thanksgiving.

Or... nothing.

The Super Committee would have to propose $1.8 trillion in spending cuts to achieve that amount of deficit reduction over 10 years.

IOW, a meaningless drop in the bucket, Yes?

If the Super Committee fails, Congress must send a balanced-budget amendment to the states for ratification.

Unless it doesn't actually PASS the Congress...

If that doesn’t happen, across-the-board spending cuts would go into effect and could touch Medicare and defense spending.

Really? What cuts? Where's the list? No list? Uh-huh...

No net new tax revenue would be part of the special committee’s deliberations.

With no enforcement authority.

Am I the only one who's calling bullshit on this?
