I think that we are at the very least in for a collapse much like that of Argentina’s ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yerKMQc7-w&feature=grec_index), but as a armed society with a very large entitlement minded population our collapse will be much more violent and I see many many small business wiped out by flash mob looting, and large scale violence (look at what happened just this past Memorial Day and 4th of July weekends)we are seeing these mobs grow bolder and bolder.

And it’s not just Chicago, but Washington DC, Las Vegas, St Paul, Philadelphia and on most major big ‘Blue’ cities are increasingly reporting such flash mobs and gang muggings. Its even happening in smaller towns like Peoria, Il and Greensboro, NC:

I see what I call ‘Pocket Pogroms’ taking place in many big ‘Blue’ cities and if you aren’t a ‘0bamamite yute’ or one of ‘Holder’s People’ it’s going to get Reginald Denny bad for you very quickly.

I would also Like to add That I don’t like what I am seeing trending with LEO’s. I am not sure if it’s stress or what, but there seems to be a growing disfuction in the area of ‘To protect and Serve’ among LEO’s. In a SHFT situation calling on LEO’s for help I think you will have a good chance of not only not getting help you need, but actually end up sorry you called.

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://www.tomeaker.com/kart/preparedness1i.pdf

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.
Underestimation can be fatal.”

Luxury items like this help turn surviving into living. It also helps keep up to morale of the little ones and can be used for trade in a truly extended scenario.

Or to catch ants to eat for protein...

"There are few things that would be better trade goods than candy"

I'm stocking up on coffee beans and consider them to be a good barter item. As a recreational drug they will always be in demand.

Yes, I have the Fannie Farmer and a few dozen more, lol. I had just mentioned the Williamsburg cookbook a couple days ago here and happened upton the “updated” version for $2 at a thrift store today. Yeah, splurged just to see what and why they updated it. Gave lil’ miss (aka my parents are stupid but I know everything) the 1950 Betty Crocker cookbook for her birthday. Surprised it went over so well and the teen (wouldn’t last 5 minutes after TEOTWAWKI) we’ve taken in now wants one.

In prison economy nothing beat smokes. The only problem is volume. BATF will have bigger problems to worry about than you bartering pack of smokes for food. But generally, a pack of smokes could feed your family for a day or two. Also, if you are smoker QUIT NOW.

Paxk of smokes will buy 3-4x more food than today.

Bartering when people go hungry can be extremely dangerous. You need to keep barter stash on two different location to avoid being robbed, or killed. DO NOT keep barter stuff in principal residence, especially if you have children.

Hence my advice of non-descript street clothes. Avoid being trapped/poached.

Tough times bring out the best and the worst out of people. Your "friends" could sell you down the river for a pound of coffee.

IMHO consider barter only when your goods are close to end of shelf life.

Absolutely. I only think about barter as a desperation measure. And it would never be face to face.

Cigs? I don't need them, they're expensive, fragile and perishable. The worst thing I hear people talking about as an item for trade is ammo. If I have ammo: good. If the other guy doesn't have ammo: good. I have no interest in changing that equation, lol.

BTW, that was a great list you posted last night. Actually some things I haven't thought of or read a hundred times. Thanks for that.
