No.

TYPE I ERRORS ARE NOT ANY MORE INHERENTLY SAFER THAN TYPE II ERRORS

ANY MORE

THAN

TYPE II ERRORS ARE ANY MORE INHERENTLY SAFER THAN TYPE I ERRORS.

The problem I often chastise ‘super rationalists’ for on these threads is

THAT

They persistently, stubbornly, irrationally

have an idiotic ADDICTION

to avoiding a TYPE I ERROR [belief or a finding that SOMETHING IS THERE—WHEN NOTHING IS THERE

AT ALL COSTS.

THEY FAIL UTTERLY TO REALIZE OR TO DEAL LOGICALLY WITH THE SCIENTIFIC FACT

THAT

LEANING SO FAR OVER BACKWARDS TO AVOID A TYPE I ERROR

MAKES IT VIRTUALLY CERTAIN

THAT ONE WILL BE SNOOKERED BY A TYPE II ERROR [THE BELIEF THAT NOTHING IS THERE, WHEN SOMETHING IS THERE.]

I can’t recal a single naysayer adequately expressing on FR that they even understand that fact—much less logically coming to grip with that fact.

They just rant in irrational emotional ‘KILL THE MESSENGER’ fashion rather than deal with that

VERY BASIC SCIENTIFIC FACT.

I find that extremely disingenuous of them.

All the more so since they pretend to the the

SUPER SCIENTIFIC SUPER LOGICAL SUPER RATIONALISTS.

What hypocritical hogwash.

Second, to keep things in perspective, the underlying principles that limit what physics and science are able to tell us is relevelant to this thread.

ABSOLUTELY INDEED.

Well done description and analysis, imho.

Heading to bed shortly.

Very good CLEANSING STREAMS RETREAT BUT AM TIRED.

These threads were entertaining for awhile, but it’s getting old.

Like watching a dog chase it’s tail, there are some who will pick and choose stories told by “people who know people who have seen things”, while ignoring facts and physics.

There can be no resolution, because some have chosen a belief that they will never abandon. Reality be damned.

And when they are shown proof that they are wrong about one individual issue, they brush it off and move on to the theory. Or flat out deny it ever happened.

Constantly pushing the “due date” of the next disaster forward, seeming to hope for some new calamity they can point to and say, “SEE! It must be true!”

Funny, and yet sad.

Or, my fave, they accuse the critics of logic errors without bothering to examine their own.

In this instance, the real proof that this was a natural event is that scores of meterologists were predicting a really bad outbreak days in advance. How would they know in advance of HAARP involvement?

Yet we are the ones accused of logic errors. Yeah, right.

It really boils down to conspiracy theories that approach religious belief versus those who bother to learn science and apply such to the claims being made. Metmom actually has a degree in this subject matter, yet some have had the gall to accuse her of being uniformed. No, she just has the background to know the claims are nonsense at their very foundation.

This is my favorite:

I think your ASSUMPTIONS about our level of technology are not as accurate as your facts about the weather.

Quix would have us believe that HAARP can generate and control energies well in excess of what can be created by an H-bomb - the most energetic device invented by man - and it would MORE than the energy of an H-bomb - focused - to begin to have any chance of impacting weather. Metmom's basic physics calculations as to the energy in the atmopshere demonstrated that.

So quix's claim has to rely on exotic technologies from aliens, as we have seen elsewhere. Which makes the subject undebatable from a scientific viewpoint.
