Springsteen. Definitely Springsteen.
I mean “played their own instruments well”.
“Rock”(as distinguished from Rock & Roll, i.e. everything after Chuck Berry and excepting Motown) is over rated. It’s strident music with a monotonous clunky beat.
I am a hard core Stones fan. I liked some stuff by the Allman brothers, but would not call them a favorite.
I am a big Fleetwood Mac, Beatles, Stones, Doors, Clapton (including Derek and the Dominoes, Cream, Blind Faith too), Byrds, Zep, Young Rascals, Mama’s and Papas, Who, George Thorogood, Eagles, Seger, ZZ Top, Yardbirds, Huey Lewis, CCR (and John Fogerty when he went solo), Tom Petty (!!) and who could not love Robert Palmer (and his killer vids!). I am sure there others I left out, but these are the ones that roll off my tongue.
Beatles not allowed on IPOD, EVER!
And Journey with the Filipino kid as the front man is excreble.
Most of these types of bands, that transition from having a large underground/cult following for years, THEN hit it big were still pretty good at the beginning of their “popular” phase - maybe the first album or two. THEN they start to suck.
Genesis fits this...as does Metallica, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Jefferson Starship (I consider them separate from Airplane) etc....
Elvis Costello
Bruce Springsteen
Bob Dylan
Elton John
Sometimes I wonder if I’m the kid saying “the emperor wears no clothes”
Tull were real musicians.
Who else could get away with combining 13th century English maddrigals and Lisztian fireworks?
Redefine popular music. Not once, but twice.
You and everyone else who believe the Beatles are "over-rated" are beyond mad.

UNDERATED: Queen.
I like power ballads, but they wear thin after a while.
And “hair metal” power ballads I like better than “AOR” ballads.
They kept me sane and their music was awesome then. It took me quite a while to warm up to Stevie and Lindsay.
I would disagree with Three Dog Night (essentially a singles band) and Pablo Cruz (you have to make it big to be overrated).
Milli Vanilli
You won’t get any argument from me. Once Paul left the Beatles, he became full of suck and fail. I always considered Wings to be a “rinky dink” band. Kind of like the Bay City Rollers.
AND they know the final resting place of Adolf Hitler's genitalia to boot.
My pals and I were some of the few left at Woodstock when Jimi rolled over. Grew up with Purple Haze blaring on the 8 track every Saturday night after the football game. Hendrix was a very talented musician and song writer. ;->
